Title: Housing Navigator Specialist
Program: Various Homeless Programs
Hours: 40 hours per week– 5 days a week
This position may require some evenings/ weekends.
Supervisor: Director of Programs
Job Summary:
The Housing Navigator is responsible for providing services to clients in need of housing and services. These services may include providing general information about various housing programs, crisis intervention services, developing action plans, providing an appropriate level of guidance and support, facilitating referrals, and serving as advocate on behalf of participant to assist them in securing services, and support to reach their housing goals.
Essential Functions:
· Conducting a tenant screening and housing assessment that identifies the client’s preferences and barriers related to successful tenancy
· Developing an individualized housing support plan based upon the housing assessment that addresses identified barriers
· Assisting in securing housing, including assistance with obtaining identification and documentation
· Searching for housing and presenting options
· Identifying and securing available resources to assist with subsidizing rent, voucher program or state and local assistance programs
· Identifying and securing resources to cover expenses, such as security deposit, moving costs, adaptive aids, environmental modifications, moving costs and other one-time expenses.
· Assisting with arranging for and supporting the details of the move
· Establishing procedures and contacts to retain housing, including developing a housing support crisis plan that includes prevention and early intervention services when housing is jeopardized
· Educating and engaging with landlords.
· Ensure that all required program paperwork is completed and entered the participant master file and databases in a timely manner
· Other duties as assigned by Director
· Communicating with the Department Heads or Managers, as needed.

Qualifications: Baccalaureate level of conceptual thinking, organization and expression obtained by a degree in Sociology/Psychology/ or other related field or equivalent work experience.
Minimum Education and Experience and Licensing Requirements:
High school diploma required.
AA or bachelor’s degree preferred.
Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
Other:
· Fingerprint Clearance through DOJ or FBI and approved
· Current California Driver’s License, proof of insurance and reliable vehicle.
· Must be able to pass a Live Scan, background check and drug test
Skills:
· This position spends 50 – 70% of the time in the field working in the Coachella Valley area.
· Minimum two years case management experience; knowledge of homelessness, addiction and mental health issues as they pertain to provisions of supportive service
· Demonstrated communication skills and sensitivity to various cultures and socio-economic groups.
· Working knowledge of computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint, Word and Excel.
· Knowledge of and experience with motivational interviewing preferred
· Understanding of the organization’s Vision and Mission
· Interest in working in a non-profit environment
· Highly organized, with an ability to manage multiple short-and long-term projects simultaneously
· Highly developed interpersonal skills and highly effective in working objectively.
· Team player willing to accept and promote organizational goals and function with minimal supervision.
· Ability to manage multiple database programs
· Excellent attention to detail and constant focus on data quality
· Ability to make decisions based on education preparation and experience which reflect consistency with organization philosophy, policies, and procedures.
Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only a limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. The ability to keep concise records.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, and regularly required to stand and walk. Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate with a high level of activity.

Pay: $18.00 - $19.00 per hour
