Job Summary

Provides support for controls manager and supervisors. Provides training of all technicians on new processes, software and equipment. Leads district-wide installation and support of telemetry hardware, process control hardware and automation. Leads final checkout on equipment installed by contractors. Organizes all documentation regarding telemetry hardware, process control hardware, automation, P&ID diagrams, electrical schematics and network layouts. Maintains completion statuses and need for any PM revisions. Assists supervisor in PM assignments. Maintains, organizes and updates various programs and software used by controls technicians and advises management for the need of any new additions.

Essential Job Functions

Provides technical support to existing telemetry, SSO/CSO, process control and automation hardware. Provides hardware support including preventive maintenance, repair, upgrade and new installation for Allen Bradley PLCs (Micrologix, SLC 500, and Contrologix) using Controlnet and ethernet communication devices; Seimens PLC’s (S7-200 and S7-1200) using MPI/PPI, Motorola PLC’s (Moscad) using serial, Modbus, ethernet and fiber communication devices. Responsible for the installation and support of devices installed at all regional treatment plants, pumping stations, flood pump stations, cso, sso and real-time control facilities (basins) for process control, automation and telemetry. Provides network installation, analysis and support of all regional facilities’ process control and automation networks. Performs termination and testing of fiber optic cable and cat5/6e copper cables. Installs routers, layer 2 switches and wireless equipment. Fabricates telemetry and local control panels. Installs, labels and terminates control wires. Installs, calibrates and repairs instrumentation (flow meters, level meters, O2 meters and Do meters). Installs modems and antennas. Performs termination of coaxial cable ends and site Db loss test for all telemetry sites. Develops and maintains electrical drawings, P&ID, instrument loop diagrams, network layouts and all other documentation associated with process control systems and telemetry. Reviews proposed construction documents to assure compliance with MSD guidelines for recording and monitoring. Reviews processes and equipment and provides input to operations, maintenance and engineering personnel concerning technical issues and applications concerning controls, monitoring, and recording instruments and devices.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Necessary to the Work

Knowledge of computers, instrumentation and automation; knowledge of MSD and ISA design standards; knowledge of NEC electrical code and vendor related specifications; knowledge of variable frequency drives; knowledge of treatment plant principles; knowledge of controls for level and flow devices on RTC facilities; knowledge of ISA flow procedures and principles; knowledge of MSD policies and procedures; knowledge of older technologies (PLC5, Data Highway Plus, and serial communications); skill in utilizing instrumentation software (Flow ware (Flodar) Field Care, Accusonic, and Ultra Scan); skill in utilizing graphic design software (GE I-Fix); skill in oral and written communication; skill in managing multiple priorities; skill in operating a PC and associated Windows environment software (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite, etc.); ability to read electrical drawings, P&ID and instrument loop diagrams; ability to work with PLC hardware; ability to utilize Hansen, SAP, Outlook and WorkForce; ability to resolve problems; ability to plan, organize and coordinate work effectively; ability to establish goals and priorities; ability to promote positive relationships and work habits in the workplace; ability to exercise tact and diplomacy; ability to be courteous and helpful under pressure; ability to maintain accurate and confidential records/information; ability to work effectively under heavy, unpredictable surges in workload and deadline pressure; ability to work outdoors, at night, shift work and overtime.

Minimum Requirements

Associate degree in an Industrial discipline (electrical, electronic, industrial maintenance) or a related field; five or more years of related experience; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. Must meet job skills assessment requirements. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must have safe work and driving habits. Must have an acceptable and reliable means of being contacted during off-duty hours.
