Department Information

Georgia Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled (GLS} is part of Georgia Public Library Service (GPLS), an agency of the University System of Georgia. GLS is a network library of the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled. Our office is located in Chamblee, GA very near 1-85 and 1-285, with a shuttle available from the Chamblee MARTA station to the office.

Job Summary

The Inventory Assistant primarily serves patrons of the Georgia Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled (GLS), Georgia's statewide talking book and braille library. Other duties include circulation of materials from the State Professional Library Collection. Circulation duties include the use of an integrated library system; audio book duplication and repair; shipping and receiving materials; shelving materials; repair and maintenance of books and other circulating items; collection of service statistics and daily activity reports; and coordination and monitoring of activities of library volunteers. The position must maintain a good working relationship with local postal service and couriers for the PINES lending network.

This job is a Monday-Friday position, based in Chamblee GA at the offices of Georgia Public Library Service, and has little to no contact with the general public.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily circulation tasks for the statewide talking book service
  • Utilize hardware and software to create digital talking book cartridges
  • Keep work area neat and organized
  • Maintain daily workload statistics
  • Check-in returned library materials
  • Assist with circulation of the State Professional Library Collection
  • Other duties of a similar nature as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in library circulation services
  • Experience in interlibrary loan
  • Experience in providing services to people with disabilities
  • Ability use an integrated library system (ILS) for circulation tasks
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to bend, stand, lift, reach and conduct physical activity for up to 8 hours a day
  • Ability to use a PC for submitting timecards, email, chat and virtual learning
