Being a member of our Outreach team, you will be part of many public education efforts intended to increase the awareness and preparedness of the community. Topics covered will be our local hazards, building an emergency supply kit, and making a family plan in the event of an emergency. Being a member of the Inclusive Emergency Communication team, you will assist in developing the Trusted Partner Network of multi-lingual volunteers who will help in emergency messaging. You will help develop strategies to reach our linguistically diverse community of over 150 languages spoken at home. You will also develop new ways to educate the public.

King County Emergency Management coordinates with first responders, government agencies, and other partners in emergencies. When there isn’t an emergency, we are getting ready for the next one. An integral part of a disaster-resilient community is their preparedness. With many new residents moving into the County, some are unaware of the natural and man-made hazards that characterize the region.

You will have three primary duties with your service term:

Teaching disaster preparedness workshops to the community
Educating the public about emergency preparedness at public outreach events (preparedness fairs, expos, etc.)
Serving as a member of the Inclusive Emergency Communications team that is working to ensure that all members of our community will be alerted in a disaster and recruiting for the Trusted Partners Network to help spread life-saving emergency alerts

If you’re thinking that you may not have the skill set necessary, don’t worry! We will train you to become a subject matter expert in the products you’ll be delivering. If this project seems interesting to you, please apply.
