Lamont Research Professor - Open Rank
Job description
The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University recognizes the importance of understanding the natural sources of carbon to the atmosphere and sinks in land and ocean with rapid climatic and ecosystem shifts. We seek to fill an assistant to associate-level Lamont Research Professor position in the field of carbon science and management, including marine, coastal and terrestrial carbon. The scope of potential fields of research is broad, including chemical/biological oceanography, carbon fluxes between the atmosphere and ocean and/or land, soil science, coastal blue carbon, field and experimental biogeochemistry and forest carbon cycling. We recognize the importance of Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) of various carbon management methods. We especially welcome applicants working with observational, experimental, and modeling tools including development of instrumentation to assess, evaluate and eventually monitor the potential successes as well as downstream pitfalls of various approaches in enhancing carbon sequestration. The selection committee is interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their excellence in research, teaching, and service, to the diversity and excellence of our academic community. The successful candidate will join a world-class community of researchers with opportunities for transdisciplinary collaborations with other scholars in fields such as economics and engineering at the Columbia Climate School and be expected to achieve distinction in both research and service.
