Overview

The Survey Technician is tasked with reviewing, processing survey data to create drawings of surveys. Knowledge and ability to use and process data in a manner acceptable for field to finish procedures is highly desirable.

This position requires prior field experience. From time to time, this position will perform field surveys functioning as a Party Chief or Instrument Operator in a one or two man crew. The Survey Technician position requires valid driver's license and to be physically capable and willing to perform full day outdoor work in this position. You may be expected to perform work in varying weather conditions that may be wet, cold or hot. You may have to carry equipment and lift heavy objects. You may be required to work nights and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Daily processing and filing of survey data files, field notes, photos, and sketches
  • Perform CAD work to create and finalize survey drawings
  • Use Excel and other survey programs to process, verify data, and run reports
  • Perform daily downloads of data collector files
  • Adhere to company standards, protocols for maintenance and upkeep of survey equipment and vehicles
  • Interface and report to MFS' Principal Land Surveyor or project managers as assigned to a project

  • Continually utilize visual acuity to operate office and field equipment
  • Continually required to bend, stoop, and kneel
  • Occasionally required to climb and balance
  • Frequently required to lift, carry, and push items up to 50 pounds
  • Continually exposed to outside weather conditions when in the field

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Survey Technician
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Civil3D
  • Experience with field to finish procedures and methods
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Experience with processing GPS data
  • Wide range of experience in topographic/boundary survey and construction layout
  • Ability to react positively to difficult project assignments and/or client representatives
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently, yet follow defined procedures within reason
  • Experience as a Party Chief or Instrument Operator and willing to perform field work as needed
  • Must possess a valid driver's license, and have a clean driving record
  • Must be willing to travel within NJ, NY, PA and other locations as well
  • Desire to pursue a career in Land Surveying, as witnessed through current degreed program in survey or having attained LSIT is a plus
  • Undergo a background check (required)

Preferences

  • Experience with Microstation a plus
  • Prior use of Leica LGO
  • Structural monitoring experience
