Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Department Manager and Medical Director, the Lead Respiratory Therapist coordinates daily departmental activities in addition to providing direct patient care as a Level II Respiratory Therapist. This care includes Respiratory Therapy modalities and education of the patient, family, staff and public. Therapies include delivery of medical gases, mechanical ventilatory support, including cardiac and ICU protocols, artificial airway care, bronchiopulmonary hygiene, delivery of pharmacological agents related to respiratory care, aerosol therapy and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Diagnostic activities include obtaining and analyzing specimens, interpreting physiological data, performing tests and studies of the cardiopulmonary system. The Lead Therapist coordinates and checks care in the hospital setting and reports performance, stocking and staffing issues to the Department Manager. The Lead Therapist is also responsible for coordinating and participating in Quality Improvement activities as appropriate. The Therapist is a clinical consultant for issues related to scope of practice for staff and other health care providers as needed. Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in Critical Care.
- AS degree-major in Respiratory Therapy.
- Current State of California RCP license. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT),Current BLS Certification, Preferred ACLS Certification
- Able to operate blood gas equipment. Basic knowledge and operation of PC.
- Complete annual safety training. Complete and maintain department specific training.
