Maintainability Engineer Supporting Commercial Space

The Maintainability Engineer will support the xEVAS contract supporting the new commercial space suit.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Partner with systems engineers and design engineers to identify and implement improvements that increase reliability and improve maintainability resulting in safer space suits with lower operational costs.
- Collaborate with XEVAS IPT systems engineers to develop strategies that lower space suite maintenance costs.
- Work with XEVAS IPTs to understand space suit operational cost models and then using those to inform design requirements.
- Responsible for identifying components that drive operational maintenance costs and then develop plans to reduce those recurring costs. This includes definition and optimization of preventive maintenance plans.
- Responsible for developing long-term strategies to continuously improve the suit service life over a program's lifecycle.
- Responsible for developing the best practices within the maintainability discipline, including processes and tools that can be reused across the XEVAS program to develop highly maintainable and low-operating-cost space suits. This includes lifecycle cost analysis for space suit maintenance, establishing criteria for spare parts management, and refining the approach for verifying space suit service life and maintenance intervals.

REQUIRED:

- This position requires US Citizenship or Permanent Resident status due to the sensitivity of customer related information.
- Must have a bachelor's degree in the field of engineering, or a related field.
- Must have 5+ years of recent and related work experience.
- In lieu of a degree, candidates with 9+ years of relevant work experience will be considered.
- Familiar and understand human factors engineering concepts and requirements.
- Logistics understanding of supply chain requirements and supply chain timelines.
- Total understanding of service life, shelf life, and operational life requirements and impacts of program. Storage life requirements for suitable storage areas controlled and un-controlled areas.
- Safety engineering for components and access requirements for components.
- All required scheduled and unscheduled maintenance planning activities.
- Planning for observed and intrinsic maintenance levels.
- Understand difference between orbital replacement, line replacement units and shop replacement level units.
- Complete understanding of repair level analysis.
- Ability to communicate maintainability technical data/analyses to management.
- Ability to interface effectively with hardware and systems engineers to develop comprehensive understanding of XEVAS hardware, operations, and performance.
- Ability to gather, analyze, interpret, and integrate failure data.
- Effective working within a team environment and as a stand-alone subject matter expert.
PREFERRED: (Skills other than those required to meet the minimum requirements for the job):
- Prior experience with National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) processes and procedures is highly desired.
- Prior experience working for the military or other major aerospace and space companies.
- Technical knowledge of spacecraft systems and operations (e.g. thermal control, life support systems, suited systems, and hyper- or hypobaric environments field research).

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATIONS REQUIRED:
