The Maintenance Craftsperson II is responsible for performing various maintenance tasks, routine and skilled work, below the level of a licensed tradesperson. Working under the direction of the Director of Facilities, the Maintenance Craftsperson II may also work directly with vendors performing tasks below the level of a licensed tradesperson. The basic purpose of this work is to perform various tasks required for upkeep of all Village owned and/or leased campus buildings and homes; and all other related duties. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform general building maintenance, including repairs and preventive maintenance as outlined on service requisitions using hand and power tools appropriate to the job
  • Work cooperatively with all staff and tradespeople
  • Assist with remodeling activities for large and small-scale projects, Including, but not limited to: attendance at meetings to discuss the projects and working with vendor(s) providing services to the project
  • Perform repairs to windows, walls, doors and all related hardware
  • Maintain, repair, install and replace locks in doors or furniture
  • May perform light carpentry duties under supervision
  • Repair faucets and other bathroom fixtures, and unclog toilets, and report problems to appropriate personnel
  • Reset electrical circuit breakers and report problems to appropriate personnel
  • Assist with the maintenance of phone, data and CCATV systems
  • Replace burnt out light bulbs
  • Assemble and make minor repairs of office furniture
  • Install bookshelves, cabinets, pictures, clocks and similar items
  • Repair department equipment
  • Assist with maintenance of mechanical systems as needed, including cleaning, changing and inventorying filters
  • Assist with the recycling and trash disposal program
  • Assist in completing setup and maintenance related assignments for special events, meetings and Village functions
  • Assist with moving equipment and furniture as needed
  • Required for weekly on-call (after hours and weekend) emergency response as assigned by manager
  • Assist with vendor deliveries
  • Perform grounds work and custodial work as needed
  • Remove snow and ice as needed
  • Report hazardous and unusual situations to the appropriate authority
  • Complete all work orders and requisitions in a timely manner, and properly process and return all completed work orders and requisitions
  • Maintain a clean work area and an adequate inventory of all shop supplies and equipment
  • May operate aerial bucket truck
  • Attend training sessions as required
  • May direct employees of a lower level as needed
  • Perform duties of lower classifications as required
  • Respond to emergency calls and perform a variety of maintenance and repair duties
  • Perform related duties as required

SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL/VOCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Equivalent to High School education
  • At least 3 years of previous experience in maintenance, and repair; or any equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record

JOB SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, machine tools, and maintenance equipment related to these areas
  • Able to use computers, radios, and other technological tools in the course of performing duties
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, including but not limited to all staff, administration and residents
  • Ability to work independently and be able to make sound, independent decisions when circumstances warrant such actions
  • General knowledge of OSHA regulations
  • Ability to understand and assist with maintaining all relevant life/safety regulations
  • Sufficient manual dexterity in both hands to operate hand tools and power tools.
  • Thrive in a team environment and work well with others
