Job description

The Maintenance Mechanic performs preventative maintenance and basic repairs of gasoline and diesel fueled equipment as well as cranes, material processing, packaging, environmental control, conveyors, and support equipment to the extent as described in the job responsibilities & competencies. Electrical and PLC knowledge is preferred.

Job Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance and basic repairs on diesel powered heavy equipment, cranes, vehicles, crushing, screening, and conveyor systems, packaging equipment, and environmental control equipment.
• Diagnose basic malfunctions of light-wheel vehicles and associated items
• Maintain shop facilities and up-keep of tools & equipment
• Power wash heavy equipment as needed
• Perform repairs and preventative maintenance checks and services in accordance with appropriate maintenance schedules
• Complete applicable work orders, maintenance forms, and records
• Employ basic maintenance techniques to correct malfunctions of mechanical, electrical, air and hydraulic systems or components
• Perform preventative maintenance on fixed and mobile equipment and vehicles
• Determine proper tools and equipment to be used for maintenance tasks
• Test and operate vehicles and equipment as required and observe for evidence of abnormal operation
• Operate and assist in the operation of vehicles including forklifts & JLG lifts in conjunction with maintenance operations
• Organize work area to gain maximum efficiency and productivity in terms of time, tools, and equipment
• Operate vehicles and equipment for diagnosis and inspection purposes
• Apply and adhere to required safety procedures
• Basic troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
• Read, understand, and apply information contained in maintenance technical manuals and basic schematic diagrams
• Isolate and identify equipment problems and malfunctions
• Perform basic cutting, welding, and grinding operations in support of the welder on staff.
• Use proper rigging techniques to attach and secure hoists, cables and slings using authorized equipment
• Complete additional OTJ training, or training provided offsite be equipment mfg.:
• Other duties and projects as required

Education

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Electrical, Mechanical and PLC training is preferred but not required
• Equipment specific & safety training is preferred but not required

Experience, Specific Knowledge, Certification, Licenses

• Must have demonstrated mechanical aptitude
• Job experience in a heavy industrial setting is preferred but not required
• Must possess a valid driver’s license
• Will be required to wear a respirator & other PPE as part of job duties
• Competencies/Skills
• Ability to use hand & power tools
• Ability to read & understand directions, schematics, work orders, etc.

Working Conditions

• Will be required, at times to work at heights, climb ladders, and work around or over water
• May be required to work steady afternoon, midnight, daylight, or rotating shifts as needed
• May be required to work overtime or forced overtime, as dictated by the needs of the terminal
• Manual dexterity sufficient to operate tools or machinery for precision work
• Ability to do work requiring frequent stooping, bending, or kneeling
• Physical ability to climb and work off long ladders
• Ability to stand or sit for protracted periods of time
• Occasional lifting and carrying of up to 50lbs

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
