Swedish Medical Center is looking for a Mammography Technologist II (1.0 FTE, Day Shift) to work in Mammography at Swedish Ballard in Seattle, WA.

This position is required to perform a variety of radiological technical procedures specific to the diagnosis and treatment of breast disease in a high volume outpatient setting, either fixed or mobile. Responsible for producing high quality radiographic images while interacting with all patients in a caring and comforting manner. Responsible for performing required quality control activities as mandated by the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) and the FDA either as designated Quality Control technologist as under their direction. Dependent on location, may be required to utilize general radiography skills to perform diagnostic radiology exams, perform bone densitometry (DEXA) or perform breast related special procedures in conjunction with physician staff.

In this position you will:

  • Interacts with patient, explaining procedure thoroughly and answering any questions as appropriate. Models excellence in professional radiologic practice at all times while also functioning as a patient advocate.
  • Accurately produces mammographic images per protocol, making appropriate technical adjustments for body size and habitus, age, and past medical history. Analyzes technical quality of films and repeats when appropriate.
  • Dependent on location and in conjunction with the radiologist, performs all departmental special procedures including (but not limited to) image-guided breast biopsies (tomo, stereotactic, ultrasound and MRI guided), galactography, aspirations and needle localizations. Participates fully in the procedural rotation for the location, demonstrating competency in all provided procedures.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and application of radiation safety principles for both patients and self. Provides radiation protection when appropriate.
  • For mobile assignment only, familiar with equipment on board the coaches and competent in triaging issues to appropriate staff/department/vendor.
  • Participates in the departmental Quality Control as required. If the designated site Quality Control tech, demonstrates competency in the required FDA/MQSA activities, maintaining compliance at all times.
  • Keeps work area neat, orderly and well stocked with the necessary supplies. Cleans equipment after each use, in accordance with established procedures.
  • Attends and participates in the marketing, promotional and educational activities of Swedish and the Breast Imaging Program, serving as a proponent of such.
  • Performs related support duties in an accurate and timely manner, including but not limited to, contacting and scheduling recall patients, completing required computerized exam data entry, completion of exam worksheets, digital image management.
  • Demonstrates a good understanding of the overall departmental operation, following departmental policies and procedures.
  • Is cooperative, respectful and helpful to all other in the workplace (co-workers, manager and physicians) in support of the delivery of patient care and services. Conducts appropriate discussions regarding operational, system and personnel issues with leadership of service.

Required qualifications this position include:

  • Formal radiologic technology training program, which meets the requirements for registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
  • Washington State Certified Radiologic Technologist – Diagnostic license required.
  • At the time of hire must have Radiologic Technologist registry by ARRT.
  • If not certified in mammography, candidate will be required to seek and pass advanced certification within 1 year of employment.
  • For staff specifically hired into Mobile Mammography program, must have a valid Washington State driver’s license and an insurable driving record.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers required at time of hire from American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network (MTN). (ARRT).

Preferred qualifications this position include:

  • 2 years Full-time mammography.
  • Current ARRT advanced certification in mammography preferred.
