We are looking for a Manager – Office of Independence to join our Administration Department in our Livingston or NYC office. As an Office of Independence Manager, you will be responsible for providing excellent client service. Citrin Cooperman has an opening for an Independence Manager, working as part of the firm’s Risk Management Group, Office of Independence to support Citrin Cooperman’s implementation and monitoring of programs, policies, and practices to manage independence risks.

Independence Standards

Independence is integrity, professional skepticism, intellectual honesty, and objectivity – freedom from conflicts of interest. Professionals at Citrin Cooperman must remain unbiased and free from conflicts of interest with our clients, in fact and appearance. Citrin Cooperman’s independence requirements are defined by specific sets of policies and external rules and regulations to help us remain independent when providing services.

In this role, you will manage risk to the firm and its personnel regarding compliance and ethics requirements of regulatory bodies including the state boards of accountancy, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Securities Exchange Commission (SEC), and the Public Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB).

Responsibilities:

As a manager on the team, you’ll promote and monitor compliance with auditor independence rules and regulations as well as internal policies and procedures to help manage Citrin Cooperman’s regulatory and reputational risk. The Independence team is responsible for handling independence inquiries received from our professionals and engagement teams. As a manager, you will be part of a strong and cohesive team where you will use your analytical, research and investigative skills.

  • A consistent consultancy mindset when researching problems and/or issues, leveraging problem-solving know-how, and developing and offering effective solutions for matters related to Independence
  • Support established conflict check process as a component of client acceptance and continuance policies and procedures
  • Perform conflict evaluations for personal independence, firm financial interest and private equity investment consideration in an alternative practice structure
  • Support engagement-level consultation process relating to proposed non-attest services provided to an attest client and/or conflicts-of-interest matters involving multiple lines of service
  • Evaluating and assisting with the implementation of technology solutions
  • Communicating in an organized, knowledgeable manner in written and verbal formats, with emphases documenting positions concisely from an independence perspective.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required and CPA (preferred).
  • At least 5+ years of experience in public accounting (required), preferably with substantive exposure to independence considerations in professional practice
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and compliance with AICPA, SEC, and PCAOB Independence rules for a public accounting firm (preferred)

  • Outstanding attention to detail along with strong technical, organizational, analytical; decision making, problem solving, and project management skills;
  • Strong technology skills;
  • Excellent communication skills – ability to communicate information clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, to various audiences;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize time required on activities and be responsive to requests for information; and
  • Demonstrates critical thinking and applies appropriate professional integrity, objectivity and skepticism.

For positions in New York City, the salary range is $130,000 - $220,000. Actual compensation within that range will be dependent upon the individual's skills, experience, qualifications, and applicable laws.
