The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) located in Cleveland, Ohio, is searching for an entry-level Mechanic within the Operations Division.
Detailed Description
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- A high school diploma or G.E.D. required.
- Completion of a high school or post-high school Automotive/Diesel Technology or related program (as evidenced by diploma, degree, certificate, etc.) is also required.
- To substitute for completion of an Automotive/Diesel Technology program, two (2) years of verifiable experience in an automotive or truck shop maintaining and repairing vehicle systems (e.g., engines, transmissions, brakes, and steering and suspension) or an ASE certification will be considered.
- A valid TEMPORARY or PERMANENT STATE OF OHIO COMMERCIAL DRIVERS LICENSE (CDL), Class “A” or “B" with Passenger and Airbrake endorsements is required (those applicants who successfully pass the selection process who do not have a permanent or temporary CDL may be offered a position, contingent on obtaining the temporary CDL permit during training). No more than FOUR (4) POINTS on your driving record in the past three years.
Successful candidates will be expected to pass a background check and post-offer physical that is job related and consistent with business necessity.
The performance of these duties may be required at any time of the day or night, any day and night of the week. The position is a bargaining unit position.
Candidates selected to participate in the hiring process have to successfully pass a online exam, performance test, and interview. Candidates must pass the online/written assessment, receive a minimum of 70% or higher on performance test, and a minimum 60% or higher on the interview to move forward in the process. Weights for a final score will be assigned as follows for internal candidates: Online Test, 42.5%/Performance test 42.5%, Record Evaluation 15%. For external candidates, weights for a final score are: Online Test, 50%/Performance Test, 50%. All candidates must score a minimum composite score of 70% in order to establish eligibility for the portion.
Internal candidates must meet all record evaluation criteria in order to gain the 15% weighting. Records evaluation information includes a review of the following:
5 or more absence occurrences
2 or more AWOL or absence control suspensions
3 or more active written reminders (regardless of the level)
5 or more misses (regardless of whether they are active or not active)
4 or more active tardies
Drug or alcohol suspension
Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) suspension
Active Decision Making Leave (DML)
APPLICANTS WHO DO NOT PASS THE WRITTEN AND/OR PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT(S) MUST WAIT SIX (6) MONTHS TO REAPPLY AFTER THE INITIAL WRITTEN EXAMINATION DATE.
