Gulf Copper Dry Dock and Rig Repair is seeking a Mechanic for your shipyard in Galveston, TX.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for the following: Other duties may be assigned.

1. Adjust and maintain industrial machinery, using control and regulating devices.

2. Adjust, maintain, and repair or replace subassemblies, such as transmissions and crawler heads, using hand tools, jacks, and cranes.

3. Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools.

4. Assemble gear systems, and align frames and gears.

5. Clean parts by spraying them with grease solvent or immersing them in tanks of solvent.

6. Clean, lubricate, and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles.

7. Diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs, using engine diagnostic equipment such as computerized test equipment and calibration devices.

8. Examine parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges.

9. Fabricate needed parts or items from sheet metal.

10. Fit bearings to adjust, repair, or overhaul mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment.

11. Operate and inspect machines or heavy equipment to diagnose defects.

12. Overhaul and test machines or equipment to ensure operating efficiency.

13. Repair and replace damaged or worn parts.

14. Repair, rewire, and troubleshoot electrical systems.

15. Schedule maintenance for industrial machines and equipment, and keep equipment service records. Research, order, and maintain parts inventory for services and repairs.

16. Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers' specifications.

17. Weld or solder broken parts and structural members, using electric or gas welders and soldering tools.

Required Education & Experience:

1. High School Diploma or Certificate from college or technical school or equivalent combination of education and experience in mechanic role preferred.

2. Industrial and/or marine advanced mechanical experience preferred:

• 1st Class: 3-5 years
• 2nd Class: 1-3 years

Working Conditions:

1. Open-air conditions such as noisy, hot, cold, etc.

2. Working with hot and sometimes hazardous materials.

3. Aboard ships, both on and offshore as well as confined spaces.

4. Must wear hearing, eye, head protection and proper PPE.

5. Some climbing (100 feet) and lifting (50 lbs.) involved. (Board ships, climb ladders and work in obscure and dense areas).
