NORCAL Ambulance is growing across Northern California. Founded in 2005, NORCAL Ambulance is the premier leader for medical transportation in Northern California, servicing 17 counties. A locally owned, private company, NORCAL partners with hospitals and healthcare systems throughout Northern California, providing a complete solution for medical transportation needs–both critical and routine. Our services include Basic Life Support, Advanced Life Support, and Critical Care Transport.

We are currently looking for a motivated, detail-oriented and experienced medical biller to join our team! A background in medical billing, verification and follow-up will be pertinent for this role. Knowledge of Medicare and Medi-Cal a plus!

*This position is in-house and does not allow for remote/telecommuting users*
Basic Functions:

Responsible for accurate and timely submission of medical claims to insurance and private payors, contracted facilities and/or Medicare, Medi-Cal and Medicaid government programs.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Minimum 1-2 years of medical billing experience
  • Strong knowledge of HCPCS, ICD-10 CM, medical terminology and HIPAA regulations; Medicare and Medi-Cal experience highly desirable
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook), 10-key, billing software and insurance portals; dual monitor workspace
  • Multi tasker with strong attention to detail and the ability to troubleshoot and problem solve
  • Ability to compose appeals
  • Critical thinking on every aspect of claim submission
  • Excellent and professional customer service skills
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Complete all required claim entries with compliance standard prior to processing claims
  • Perform eligibility checks and benefit verifications
  • Prepare, review and transmit claims using billing software, including electronic and paper claim processing with timely claim submission
  • Identify and bill secondary or tertiary insurances
  • Daily monitoring of assigned queues for claim progression directly impacting timely payments
  • Perform various collection actions including handling of correspondence, EOB review, prompt research and appeal of denied claims and patient contact, if necessary
  • Establish and maintain a courteous and professional attitude with all NORCAL team members, patients, payors, facilities and management teams
  • Assist and respond to insurance and patient telephone inquiries within assigned payor group

Education/Experience:


High school diploma or general education degree (GED), minimum of 1-2 year experience in medical billing.
