Medical Referral Coordinator
Monday-Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm
Full-time (40/hour per week)
Location: Morristown, TN

Who we are:
Cherokee Health Systems is a Federally Qualified Health Center located throughout Tennessee. We currently have 24 locations including Knoxville, Chattanooga, Memphis, and surrounding areas. Cherokee embraces an integrated care model of care where primary care and behavioral health providers support each other in providing the highest quality of care to our patients.
At Cherokee Health Systems we also know that our staff needs balance in their work and life. This position offers a set Monday thru Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. work schedule to allow our employees, family and friends time in the evenings and on the weekends.
Minimum experience and education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior medical experience as a medical assistant, certified nursing assistant, and LPN preferred. Knowledge of Word Processing software and Electronic Medical Records software. Bilingual a plus.
Referral Coordinator requirements:
- Prioritize referrals according to the level of urgency, schedules patient appointments for specialty and diagnostic testing services and communicates referral information to patients.
- Prepares all insurance pre-authorizations and pre-certifications to specialists based on the direction of the medical provider.
- Compile information concerning patient’s clinical background and referral needs. Per referral guidelines, provide appropriate clinical information to specialty.
- Maintain referral and diagnostic tracking system by following up with specialists and diagnostic facilities to obtain test results and visit summaries.
- Maintain excellent customer service standards with both patients and staff.
