POSITION DESCRIPTION

JOB DESCRIPTION: Resident Assistant (Supportive Housing Program)

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Resident Assistant Supervisor

POSITION SUPERVISED: None

QUALIFICATIONS/CREDENTIALS:

1) High School Diploma or Equivalent;

2) Valid Ohio Driver’s License with less than Four Points;

3) Excellent oral and written communication skills;

4) Computer competency;

5) Flexible work hours;

6) Willingness to work with a team of staff members to implement program activities.

BASIC FUNCTION:

The Resident Assistant (RA) provides guidance and support for all clients within Stella Maris’ supportive housing program, insuring that the house provides a safe, stable recovery environment.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

1. Ensure that the program activities are consistent with the mission, vision and values of Stella Maris, Inc.

2. Oversee all client activities during assigned shift and provide clients with support and guidance.

3. Uphold the Therapeutic Community (TC) model of care and serve as a “rational authority” at all times.

4. Supervise clients to insure that house rules and policies are followed.

5. Oversee assigned client chores and provide constructive feedback.

6. Enforce curfew and quiet hour policies.

7. Administer drug screen testing for residents and other clients of Stella Maris as indicated by current policies.

8. Inspect clients returning from appointments outside of the agency.

9. Monitor client medications and document each client’s use of medications.

10. Respond to medical and other emergencies and notify appropriate administrative staff

11. Log all client admissions and discharges, including the client’s address and phone numbers.

12. Document all services provided to clients.

13. Document any client incidents in the Resident Assistant’s Log and complete appropriate Incident Report Forms.

14. Document phone calls for clients and convey messages left for the clients.

15. Monitor phone calls placed by clients using the RA office telephone.

16. Conduct searches of all clients and their possessions upon return from passes allowing them to be outside of the facility.

17. Conduct random searches of client rooms. (An average of three random searches per week, conducted at shift change so two staff are present.)

18. Conduct a walk-through of all of Stella Maris’ facilities with one of the Detox Unit staff at the end of the day to insure that all of the facilities are secure.

19. Assist in transporting clients to appointments outside of the facility.

20. Attend either AM or PM TC community meetings.

21. Communicate with staff members, visitors and clients in a respectful and professional manner at all times.

22. Uphold client rights and insure client confidentiality

23. Operate and maintain program vehicle as instructed by supervisor.

24. Prepare requisitions of supplies as needed.

25. Ability to work cooperatively with other staff/disciplines as part of an interdisciplinary team.

26. Complete all required agency annual compliance trainings.

27. Uphold client confidentiality.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

1. Performs other duties of the position and within the individual’s capabilities as assigned by his supervisor.
