JOB GOAL

Provide supportive and direct mental health services to students and families. Provide assessment, diagnostic, counseling, and psychotherapeutic treatment services to students. May provide educational consultation services to other school staff, community agencies, and the public. Support the district implementation of Social Emotional Learning and School Mental Health policy. Work collaboratively with Specialized Instructional Support Personnel to provide a full continuum of behavioral/mental health support.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provides therapeutic services to students including developing and monitoring treatment plans.
  • Conducts initial intake evaluations, suicide risk assessments, and substance abuse screening and assessments; participate in the threat assessment process.
  • Develops/monitors individual treatment plans.
  • Identifies the needs of students and links them to the necessary resources.
  • Provides individual, group, and family therapy. provides training and consultation to school staff.
  • Contributes to multidisciplinary, SEL, behavior support, and IEP teams.
  • Implements protocols for students re-entering school following acute/residential mental health treatment.
  • Documents services and submits data for reimbursement.
  • Writes clinical reports.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS


Knowledge, Skills & abilities

  • Knowledge of behavioral change theories and practices including early intervention, positive behavior supports, tiered intervention practices, trauma-informed care, and mental health supports.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic modalities, brief counseling and psychotherapeutic techniques, human development principles, and crisis intervention.
  • Knowledge of mental health disorders, substance use disorders and evidence-informed treatments.
  • Knowledge of the special education and Section 504 programs.
  • Knowledge of behavior health regulations and ethics related to school-based mental health services including Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Knowledge of documentation and reimbursement requirements for behavioral health services, and ability to maintain accurate and timely documentation of services.
  • Ability to conduct evaluations and treat mental health disorders through the provision of individual, group and family therapy, and crisis intervention skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with individuals and groups from varied educational and cultural backgrounds to coordinate resources for families and conduct effective meetings.

  • Ability to organize work and provide effective services within a limited timeframe.
  • Ability to develop, coordinate, and deliver relevant and effective psychoeducation or professional development to students, parents/guardians, and staff.
  • Ability to utilize data to inform service delivery, to interpret, apply, and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and impart concepts and information accurately both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to be self-directed, responsible, and complete work within prescribed timelines.


Education, Training & Experience

  • Master's Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field
  • Two (2) years clinical therapy experience

OR

  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position


Certificates, Licenses & Registrations one or more of the following:

  • Valid NC license to practice as one of the following:

Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC)

Licensed Psychologist (LP)

Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate (LCSWA)*

Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHCA)*

Licensed Psychological Associate (LPA)*

  • Candidates who meet the educational qualifications, but who currently are an LPA or who have a provisional license of either LCSWA/LCMHCA may be considered, given appropriate supervision is in place.


Preferred qualifications

  • Five (5) years clinical therapy experience; current license with NCDPI
