JOB SUMMARY - ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES
This position requires experience with different types of telecommunication and networking equipment across associated transport technologies. A strong understanding of telecommunication systems used to transmit voice, data and video across digital and fiber optic WAN/LAN infrastructure is also necessary. The ideal candidate will:
- Apply technical knowledge of telecommunication networking and transport equipment to solve complex problems utilizing diagrams, schematics, test equipment, and engineering data.
- Install, configure and maintain various types of serial, digital and optical transport equipment. Common equipment includes switches, routers, TDM and OTN on CISCO & Ciena.
- Possess a strong understanding of Layer 2/3 networking principles.
- Utilize various management software to diagnose, configure and review configurations.
- Troubleshoot and repair circuits on TDM, OTN, switches and routers.
- Perform fiber installations to include splicing, terminating, and repair, build network cabling and install cable/fiber plants supporting building, campus, and long haul environments.
- Be willing to climb towers to install/repair antennas and cabling.
- Possess experience with various encryption devices, multiplexing devices, routers, switches, and all associated hardware.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

WORKING CONDITIONS
Duties are performed both indoors and outdoors. Outdoor duties may be performed on even or uneven surfaces, which may be dry or wet. Outdoor duties may be performed on gravel or shingled roof. Climbing stairs, ladders, towers, and scaffolds, indoors or outdoors, is required. Government vehicle is used on an as-needed basis. Grease or oil may be found on working surfaces. Ability to work in a field environment with some shift work, at remote locations with occasional overnight assignments. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Travel to remote working locations may be required.
REQUIREMENTS - EDUCATION, TECHNICAL AND WORK EXPERIENCE
In addition, an Electronic Technician III must possess the following qualifications:
- International Society of Certified Electronics Technicians (ISCET) certification
- Comprehensive knowledge in general electronics
- Demonstrated expertise in electronic, electro-mechanical, and computer systems and the test equipment used to maintain and repair equipment
- Experience with tubes, transistors, logic gates, and/or high-power RF devices
- Expert-level troubleshooting and soldering capabilities
