Essential Functions:
- Provide hands-on wound care to patients including debridement of wounds by enzymatic, sharp, or autolytic methods when appropriate.
- Develop and manage an individualized wound care treatment plan for optimal healing outcomes or chronic wound maintenance.
- Order, review, interpret, and integrate diagnostic studies and laboratory findings for initiating or modifying the treatment plan.
- Work with Wound Center staff and facility leadership to determine opportunities for education of facility nurses with appropriate identification of wound types, prevention of wounds, and nursing care of wounds.
- Supervise the delivery of hyperbaric medicine oxygen treatments (HBOT) provided to patients.
- Develop wound care education plans in collaboration with the Wound Center staff and facility.
- Educate patients about their medical condition and the benefits of HBOT and encourage patient compliance with their treatment.
- Maintain current knowledge of wound care, HBO indications and contraindications, and communicate to medical and clinical staff.
- Maintain current knowledge of topical wound care products and therapies, including ordering, application, and management of the products on wounds and ostomies, including negative pressure wound therapy.
- Prescribe medications and/or durable medical equipment to assist in healing of wounds.
- Provide the required billing information for services provided by the Wound Care APRN and maintain the documentation necessary for those services billed.
Job Requirements:
- APRN with current Indiana license
- DEA license
- CPR and Basic Life Support certified
- Wound Care certified, or ability to become certified within 6 months of employment
- Must attend 40-hour UHMS-approved Wound Care and HBO course and obtain HBO credentialing
- Must maintain an active status on all licenses and certifications required for the position according to the hospital medical staff office
- Moderate Computer Skills – Frequent use of EMR, electronic mail, word processing, data entry, spreadsheets, graphics, etc. Ability to create, maintain and incorporate simple functions into documents, spreadsheets, databases, and presentations
- Moderate Communication - Regularly uses moderately complex oral and written skills. May train others in functional areas, as well as provide education to patients and caregivers
- Two years clinical experience as Nurse Practitioner
- Two years clinical experience in Wound and Ostomy Care
- Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy experience preferred
