JOB SUMMARY: Provides nutrition assessment, education and counseling to patients who are identified as needing such services by healthcare provider referral or by self-referral. Prepares education materials and offers nutrition education in group as well as individual settings. Promotes outpatient dietitian services and proactively educates about our services and builds relationships with community providers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Outpatient Dietitian

A. Provide medical nutrition therapy to patients as referred by a healthcare provider and to self-referring patients
a. Apply the Nutrition Care process (NCP) including nutrition assessment, determination of nutrition diagnosis, developing and implementing evidence-based nutrition interventions, and monitoring and evaluating the patient’s progress
b. Provide patient nutrition education and counseling as deemed appropriate through assessment process
c. Schedule patients for follow-up nutrition assessment, education, and counseling as needed
d. Organize and present group nutrition education classes as needed
e. Document relevant, accurate, and timely information in the patient’s EMR in accordance with department policy and procedure
B. Promotes outpatient dietitian services at Idaho Falls Community Hospital
a. Build relationships with community providers and proactively educate on nutrition services available at our facility, as well as keeping interested
b. Independently, or with assistance of the hospital’s marketing department, create print and electronic advertisements for services and upcoming nutrition classes
c. With Food Service Dietitian maintain and contribute to IFCH Nutrition Department’s social media accounts
C. Attends and participates in meetings as the nutrition expert
a. Provide nutrition educations at Nutritional Services Department staff meetings as assigned
b. Assist in National Nutrition Education Week projects and other nutrition-related events as assigned
c. Participate in other meetings as assigned
D. Maintain and development skills through professional development
a. Attend scheduled hospital dietitian meetings
b. Participate in continuing education per Commission on Dietetic Registration requirements
c. Maintain RD/RDN registration and state Licensure
d. Maintain updated patient education materials and nutrition references
e. Complete assigned Health Stream educations in a timely manner
E. Be a team player
a. Follow policies and procedures of Idaho Falls Community Hospital (IFCH) and the Nutritional Services Department
b. Participate in the development and attainment of department goals
c. Participate in Performance Improvement Projects or Quality Assurance Program
d. Contribute to a positive work culture in the department as well as throughout IFCH
F. Be a productive employee
a. Report to work on time, providing proper notification of absence and/or tardiness as outlined in hospital procedures and policy
b. Maintain record of time worked by using computerized time clock and take responsibility for the appropriate management of benefit hours
c. Schedule time and utilize resources effectively and efficiently
d. Perform assignments in an independent manner with little or no direct supervision, consistently striving to be a productive member of the institution by putting time to good use and recognizing situations needing attention
e. Observe department and hospital dress and grooming guidelines
f. Have employee health screen tests done as needed and follow infection control guidelines
G. Perform other duties as assigned by the Nutritional Services Manager


QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification: Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition with a one-year internship or a Master’s Degree in Nutrition, Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) certified by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR), and Licensed Dietitian (LD) licensure by the State of Idaho Board of Medicine.
Experience: One year outpatient or clinical experience preferred
Language/Communication: Able to communicate in English effectively in both written and verbal forms
Interpersonal: Strong interpersonal skills to establish productive working relationships with referring healthcare providers as part of the patient’s healthcare team, as well as ability to relate well to patients from a multi-ethnic community and varied learning levels

Performance: Ability to organize tasks and function independently and in a timely manner
