The Library Outreach Specialist is part of the library’s Community Services department and duties include seeking out and participating in outreach opportunities to increase Chesterfield County Public Library’s (CCPL’s) exposure in the community.
Minimum Qualifications:
Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is performed in library office, library locations, outdoor events and other professional settings; extensive use of computers and devices required. Light to medium, occasionally heavy, physical requirements which may include, sitting, standing, walking, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, climbing, stooping, kneeling crouching, keyboarding, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing, visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal and reading; not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

- Bachelor’s degree in relevant major, 1 year of professional experience or equivalent combination experience and education.
- Proficient in use of common office and online applications including Microsoft Office and ability to learn and use library technology.
- Travel to other libraries and non-library locations required.

Duties
The Library Outreach Specialist will:
- Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers within library and at community events.
- Promote library brand and value of the library to the community. Develop relationships in the community and create opportunities for CCPL participation in community events. Manage requests and pursue participation in outreach events. Work with library staff to fulfill requests. Represent CCPL at events.
- Identify community needs and provide information on appropriate programs and services to underserved and at-risk communities, at community and school events, and at other events/locations as needed.
- Provide support materials to outreach events, suggesting and developing support material based on expected audience.
- Assist in the development of services designed to fulfill the library’s strategic outreach goals.
- Provide written and verbal English to Spanish/Spanish to English communication support at outreach opportunities, translate Spanish to English/English to Spanish written communication for internal support on occasion).
- Provide learning and engagement opportunities to library customers through a thorough knowledge of library resources and services.
- Promote literacy at all levels, providing access to resources and materials for all ages, interests, and backgrounds, meet with community groups, school employees and others inside and outside the facility to provide library services and promote learning initiatives.
- Perform other work as required.
Shift
Shift varies Monday - Friday between 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
