TOPS Surgical Specialty Hospital is a growth oriented fully licensed acute care hospital conveniently located at Red Oak Dr and Cypress Creek Pkwy (FM 1960) in the North Houston area. The hospital consists of eight operating rooms, 1 treatment room, 15 inpatient beds and four freestanding breast imaging facilities spread across North Houston. OPS is a physician owned facility affiliated with United Surgical Partners International (USPI).


Provides direct patient care by assisting patients with changing linens, ambulation, and transport. Maintains a clean and orderly patient care environment. Obtains and records patient vital signs, provides nutritional intake and reports results and observations. Demonstrates the primary goal of efficiently providing surgical services that exceed customer expectations and improve clinical and financial operations.

  • Participates as a team member in support of the inpatient process

  • Organizes patient care tech activities efficiently and effectively

  • Considers cost containment by using supplies economically

  • Assists with supply and equipment inventories to maintain stock level and availability

  • Addresses patient needs during admission to the PSCU with attention to requirements specific to the facility setting

  • Provides comfort and reassurance to patients

  • Maintains patients privacy and dignity

  • Responds in a timely manner to meet the needs of the patient and physician

  • Documents patient care records and other forms accurately following policies and procedures

  • Accurately advises others responsible for care of the patient about the patients status

  • Makes sure that each room has appropriate equipment for patient care such as oxygen

  • Gathers all needed equipment and supplies before patient arrives to the unit (incentive


  • spirometer, foam block, CPM, washbasin, pink cup, kidney basin, clear measuring cup, Kleenex)


  • Ensures that housekeeping has cleaned between patients


  • Demonstrates skill in the use of various equipment and makes sure it is in working order


  • Each morning, set up the rooms for scheduled admits for the day


  • Restocks bedside table weekly and as needed with appropriate supplies


  • Delivers STAT labs to Houston Northwest Medical Center as needed and when available


  • Empties JP drains/Foley bag when taking vital signs and as needed. JP drains will need to be mptied more frequently during the patients first 24 hours


  • Assists patient to the BSC/Restroom as needed after approval from nurse or physical therapist


  • Places patient on CPM and foam block therapy during designated times


  • Changes linens daily and as needed


  • Does blood glucose tests as prescribed


  • Offers assistance with routine personal hygiene care each morning


  • Fills water pitchers at the beginning of each shift and as needed


  • Make sure that during patient stay that the room is kept in a neat and orderly fashion


  • Removes bed IV poles/pulse oximeters/SCDs/CPM machines form room after patient is discharged


  • Assures that documentation is accurate, legible and complete


  • Respects patients rights


  • Performs other tasks and duties as assigned in an efficient, effective, and cost conscious


  • manner, complying with all USPIs policies, procedures and regulations

Required Experience:

  • Strong ethical and moral character references

  • High School Education or GED certification

  • Certified Nurses Aid or Medical Assistant
