Summary
This position is responsible for providing supportive se rvices to veterans in the Safe Haven program in residence at the Fairfax Hotel, located in San Francisco’s Tenderloin district . The key aspects of this position include supporting the achievement of resident goals, peer support and resident advocacy , both on site and in the community . The responsibilities include monitoring the activities of residents during and after regular hours, responding to emergencies, completing appropriate documentation ( including incident reports , progress notes and log book entries) , processing intakes, providing backup support for the day time program monitor during regular business hours, acting as secondary weekend program monitor, facilitating groups and working with daytime treatment staff to support veterans’ goal achievement and identify challenges.

Roles and Responsibilities

~Must be able to communicate effectively with a variety of personalities and be comfortable embracing the agency’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Initiative and the principles of Cultural Humility.

  • Provide peer counseling, referrals, and advocacy to formerly homeless , chronically mentally ill , dual ly and tripl y diagnosed veterans
  • Facilitate weekly pee r process groups
  • Facilitate/monitor group recreational activities, some after regular program hours
  • Transport veterans to and fr om their appointments as needed using company van
  • Assist with follow up and monitoring of residents
  • Monitor and engage residents after regular program hours to respond to, assess, or report any identif ied issues requiring attention
  • Act as secondary program monitor during weekend hours
  • Data entry and record management
  • Accompany veterans during recr eational activities and outings
  • Process intakes for incoming veterans
  • Communicate effectively with daytime treatment staff to ens ure the well-being of residents
  • Develop and maintain effective interface with community resources for advocacy and linkage to services assisting resi dents in achieving stated goals
  • Respon d to emergencies including incident reports, log book entries and the no tification of supervisory staff
  • Attend required meetings and su bmit reports in a timely manner
  • Attend mandatory STP trainings
  • Perform other related duties as signed

Requirements
Education

  • High School Diploma

Experience

  • Experience in a treatment environment of veterans with co-occurring mental health and substance abuse disorders
  • Experience facilitating or participating in process groups and in areas of dual and triple diagnosis, life sk ills and substance abuse issues with a harm reduction focus
  • Experience in crisis intervention
  • Translatable military experience and skills may be alternatively substituted

Qualifications

  • Valid California Driver’s license and clean DMV driving record
  • A working understanding of the readjustment problems of veterans , mental health, alcohol and other dru g dependencies and homelessness
  • Must be able to perform all essential job requirements and responsibilities within what would be cons idered reasonable accommodation
  • Must have ability to walk up and down stairs
  • Ability to pass food handler’s certification after hire
  • CPR certified or ability to pass CPR certification after hire
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with a variety of personalities and be comfortable working with an at-risk client population, including embracing the agency’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Initiative

Skills

  • Ability to engage clients while mai ntaining appropriate boundaries
  • Demonstrated a bility to work as a team member
  • Written and oral communication skills
  • Computer literacy
