Position Summary

The Albany Medical Center (AMC) Division of Community Endocrinology is an ambulatory care endocrinology practice located in Albany, NY. The practice consists of 10 endocrinologists, a surgeon, a podiatrist, and eight physician assistants and nurse practitioners. The practice also has its own laboratory, DXA, and ultrasound. There are approximately 1,200 patients seen each week at the site.

Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (ACPHS) and the AMC Division of Community Endocrinology have enjoyed a collaborative relationship since 1997. Three of the board-certified endocrinologists at the site work with the resident and pharmacy students on a daily basis, serving as co-preceptors for the residency and experiential education programs.

Program
This is a 12-month, full-time curriculum that provides the essential elements needed to mold a well-rounded endocrinology-based clinical pharmacist. The resident will function as a key member of the health care team and be accountable for achieving optimal drug therapy outcomes for their patients.

Clinical Practice
The resident will work with patients, endocrinologists, NPs, PAs, and other clinicians on a daily basis and gain extensive training in ambulatory care adult medicine, endocrinology pharmacotherapy, and direct pharmaceutical care to patients.

Professional Development
The resident will be involved in activities that advance pharmacy practice in the region, including professional organizations and health care coalitions.

Teaching
The resident will participate in didactic teaching, in large and small classroom settings, as well as experiential teaching by precepting clerkship students. The resident will also complete a Teaching and Learning Program at ACPHS if s/he hasn’t already completed one.

Practice-Based Research
Completion and publication of a research project is expected, as is involvement with other scholarly projects throughout the year. This will include data analysis, poster and manuscript preparation, and presentation of results at a national pharmacy/medicine meeting.

Required Qualifications

The candidate must be (1) a graduate of an
accredited school or college of pharmacy, (2) eligible for New York State licensure, (3) a U.S. citizen or carry a permanent resident visa and (4) completed a PGY1 residency.

The resident must complete New York State licensure within two months of beginning the residency. Strong emphasis is placed on interpersonal and communication skills and a desire to provide patient-centered care in an ambulatory pharmacy setting.

The applicant should also be self-directed, motivated, and display a commitment to professional involvement.
