Compensation: $65,000 to $130,000 (Depends on experience)

Position Summary

This position is responsible for participating in the design, implementation, maintenance, and evolution of electric vehicle systems as well as brainstorming new product features to help operate systems more effectively. This position will work to improve engineering quality and develop strategies to increase satisfaction as well as bridge the gap between software, hardware, testing, and customer management teams so that all teams are effective and efficient.

Responsibilities

  • Work with mechanical and controls engineers within the R&D and Engineering teams to manage on time release of platform product development
  • Understand and coordinate vehicle level customer needs of assigned chassis/platform into executable system-level and component-level requirements
  • Incorporate field reliability and customer feedback from the Customer Operations team and Technical Account Managers into product roadmap
  • Generate high-level system and component design specifications and objectives
  • Manage program direction, and track progress and issues with external suppliers and consultants
  • Implement cost reduction and labor reduction strategies
  • Track engineering related KPIs for specific platform (including uptime, reliability, cost, assembly time, etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Technically minded: Capable of reading and interpreting drawings and prints as well as electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical schematics; and control logic diagrams. Possess strong analytic and problem-solving skills as well ability to collect, organize, and analyze data.
  • Time management: Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, meet deadlines with tight timelines, remain organized, and possess ability to focus on work in a fast-paced environment. Must maintain accuracy and detail-orientation.
  • Communication: Demonstrated ability to interact respectfully with all colleagues and customers. Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills are essential along with the ability to listen intently to others.
  • Self-starter: Independently start and complete projects with limited direction. Be motivated to follow-through on projects as an individual and as a teammate.
  • Service: Passion for delivering exemplary service. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers as well as ability to turn expectations into engineering requirements. You should also be collaborative and exhibit a positive attitude toward your work and colleagues.

What we require:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) tools
  • Demonstrated experience writing component and system specifications to meet objectives
  • Experience generating system boundary diagrams and DFMEAs

What we prefer:

  • ABET certified degree program
  • Experience in the Automotive, Commercial Vehicle, or other similar industries; an understanding of basic EV system architecture and components is highly desired
  • Knowledge and practical application of 3D CAD systems; PTC Creo is highly desired
  • Experience writing control logic in Simulink, LabVIEW, Raptor, and/or Motohawk
  • Experience with CAN bus diagnostics and data logging with CANalyzer, PCAN and/or Kvaser
  • Demonstrated experience with high-voltage DC systems, particularly in PHEV, EV, or FCEV applications

Engineering levels: all degrees should be in an Engineering related course of study (Mechanical, Mechatronics, Controls, Electrical, etc.)

  • Engineer levels I and II: up to 2 years of professional experience combined with a Bachelor’s, or an advance degree combined with some work experience
  • Senior: minimum of 5 years of experience with a Bachelor’s; or 3 years of experience with a Master’s degree; or a PhD; or equivalent work experience
  • Lead: Minimum of 8 years of experience with a Bachelor’s; or 6 years of experience with a Master’s; or 3 years with a PhD; or equivalent work experience

Physical demands and abilities

  • Ability to lift 30-50 pounds
  • Regularly perform repetitive tasks, including prolonged periods at a desk
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crouch, climb, kneel, and twist.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
