Job description
Performs a variety of duties relative to the operation, supervision and safety of assigned swimming pool(s). Daily operations include staffing management, physical operations, water chemistry, processing of registrations and cash handling, and all associated aquatics programming.
- Maintains and monitors the safe operation of assigned pools, physical plant, water quality, deck and tile surfaces and equipment.
- Develops, plans, organizes, schedules, evaluates aquatics programs and activities.
- Coordinates facility and pool usage with Aquatics Program Supervisor, High School physical education /aquatics staff, high school swim team coaches, high school athletic director, building service workers, and Charles County Public Schools Aquatics Coordinator.
- Prepares and maintains administrative records and report.
- Processing of daily admissions, program registration forms, and daily management of cash handling controls and related administrative and office operations; maintains records and prepares related reports. Makes daily deposits as needed.
- Serves as customer service liaison; mediates conflict and enforce organizational policies and procedures.
- Operates pool(s) in compliance with all State and County Health and Safety Regulations.
- Responsible for the recruitment, training, evaluating, and management of assigned part time aquatics staff.
- Establishes and maintains the weekly work schedules for all assigned lifeguards at the pool site assigned.
- Reports any damage or equipment failures to the Board of Education Plant Operator and Aquatics Program Supervisor immediately.
- Reports the status of chemical supplies to the Aquatics Program Supervisor, to assure adequate supplies are on hand.
- Performs other related job duties as assigned.
Associate degree in Recreation or equivalent field. Three (3) years of experience in public swimming pool operations and management; or an equivalent combination of education, experience and training.

- Knowledge of effective methods and practices of planning, developing and implementing recreational programs. Knowledge of the safe operations and maintenance of publicly operated swimming pools.
- Knowledge of state and local health and safety regulations and procedures.
- Knowledge of effective methods and practices of planning, developing, and implementing recreational programs.
- Knowledge of PC operations.
- Knowledge of public relation skills-oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to plan, organize and lead aquatics programs and activities.
- Ability to prepare and maintain aquatics records and reports.
- Ability to carry out daily assignment, follow through on matters and uses independent judgement and training to take appropriate action to deal with standard recurring situations.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and others encountered in the workplace.
- Ability to follow established program policies and procedures.
- Ability to evaluate safety issues in programs and facility management.
- Ability to lead others in their work.
