Post-Doctoral Research Associate in Transportation Engineering
Job description
One to two exciting post-doctoral research associate positions are available for individuals interested to pursue scholarly research in transportation engineering at Western Kentucky University (WKU), particularly in transportation safety (crash analysis). The position is secured for one year, with the possibility of extension pending satisfactory performance and funding availability. The duties include the following:
- Work on two grants sponsored by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC or the Kentucky DOT), as follows:
- First active grant: Involves the application of various artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques for analyzing the impact of weather information on traffic safety in Kentucky.
- Second upcoming grant: Aims at analyzing distracted driving crashes in Kentucky.
- Write scholarly papers for submission to prestigious peer-reviewed journals and quality conference proceedings (e.g., TRB, ASCE: ICTD, etc.).
- Assist in writing proposals for external grants.
- Guide undergraduate/graduate students in their research.
- Propose research ideas for the driving simulator at the Transportation Safety & Crash Avoidance Research (TSCAR) Lab at WKU.
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary Center for Energy Systems (CES) at WKU, led by Dr. Farhad Ashrafzadeh, in investigating the safety of recent connected and autonomous vehicle (CAV) technologies.
The recruited individual(s) will work directly under the supervision of Dr. Kirolos Haleem. The full-time post-doctoral researcher candidate(s) will support the growth of the newly-established "Transportation Safety & Crash Avoidance Research (TSCAR) Laboratory" at WKU and will work with a team of researchers, including Dr. Haleem, another post-doctoral researcher, and multiple undergraduate students. Consideration of applications will begin immediately and the search will remain open until the position is filled (preferably around May 2022). The intended start date is as soon as possible. This is a one-year full-time position. Continuation is contingent upon the availability of funding. Note that salary is commensurate with experience.
Job Requirements:
- Ph.D. degree in civil (transportation) engineering.
