Job Title: Preschool Teacher

Program: Reading and Beyond Preschool

Salary Range: $16.00 – $18.00 hourly ($33,280.00-$37,440.00/year) + Benefits (Medical, Dental, Vision, & More)

Status: This is an at-will, full-time, non-exempt position

Availability: Monday thru Friday 8:00am-5:00pm (Occasional evenings and weekends)

REPORTS TO: Preschool Site Supervisor

ROLE:

Under the direction of the Preschool Site Supervisor, this position is responsible for the general supervision and management of a preschool classroom and children. The position requires the planning and execution of the educational program in accordance with the purpose and goals of Reading and Beyond Preschool.

RESPONSIBILITIES:(The information listed below is meant to serve as a sample of job duties and responsibilities. This list is neither inclusive nor exclusive, but indicative of several types of duties performed.)

1. Plan and maintain a safe, clean, learning environment and ensure the well-being and safety of the children in care.

2. Exhibit a genuine nurturing and caring attitude toward all children without bias.

3. Maintain a cooperative attitude of working together with the co-teachers, volunteers, parents, and program specialists in planning and implementing activities, behavioral support, and program improvement.

4. Develop and implement developmentally appropriate practices and lesson plans that are inclusive of all developmental domains.

5. Prepare child materials in advance for indoor and outdoor activities.

6. Maintain the confidentiality of child and program information at all times.

7. Mandated child abuse reporter

8. Observe children to detect signs of illness, injury, emotional disturbance, learning disorder, speech problem, or other special needs, document and immediately report observations to the Lead Teacher for follow up.

9. Maintain positive relationships with parents that encourage open communication (formally and informally) and parent involvement.

10. Attend professional development opportunities, staff meetings, and in-service trainings as required by the Site Supervisor.

11. Assist with the meal preparation of vended meals and follow food safety.

12. Learn and comply with Reading and Beyond Policies and procedures.

13. Supervise/utilize teacher assistants and volunteers and aide them in understanding developmentally appropriate practices.

14. Complete DRDP assessments within 60 days of child’s initial enrollment in the program and every 6 months after initial enrollment followed by parent conferences. Document individual child behaviors and interactions both indoors and outdoors to determine each child’s developmental strengths and areas that need strengthening through the use of anecdotal records, running records, works samples, pictures with descriptions, etc. For the completion of child assessments and behavioral support plans.

15. Must be willing to continue their education

16. Must be willing to take Saturday Training

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. 24 units ECE/CD including core courses plus 16 General Education (GE) units or a minimum of a Child

2. Child Development Teacher Permit or able to obtain within 30 days of employment.

3. Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred

4. Professionally prepared as a teacher of young children, especially in the field of early childhood education and/or child development; meeting the requirements of Community Care Licensing and the Early Care and Education Support Division.

5. Experience using the Desired Result Developmental Profile Assessment (DRDP-PS 2010 or 2015)

6. Knowledge of the Preschool Learning Foundations, Preschool Curriculum Frameworks and The Teaching Pyramid a plus.

7. Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices in early childhood education.

8. A warm, sensitive mature individual who relates well to children and adults

9. A strong ability to work independently, multi-task, and set priorities to accomplish various instructional and operational tasks.

10. Ability to develop positive relationships with children, parents, and co-workers

11. Ability to understand and follow instructions precisely

12. Excellent community-building and communication skills: written, verbal, and interpersonal.

13. Ability to encourage and motivate others

14. Strong conflict resolution, problem-solving, and judgment skills.

15. Excellent organizational skills, work with a high degree of accuracy, and a willingness to adapt to changing situations.

16. Personal attitude that includes flexibility and good sense of humor.

17. Pass background investigation including TB clearance and fingerprint clearance.

18. Immunizations Required: Influenza, pertussis (Whooping Cough), and Measles.

19. Must submit and pass physical examination.

20. Must have current Child/Adult CPR and First Aid Certification or willing to obtain within 30 days of hire and renew upon expiration.

DAILY DUTIES:

· All Teachers will be assign cleaning duties.

· Maintain a clean and organized classroom.

· Assist with trash duty.

· Assist with mopping, sweeping and sanitizing.

· In place of absence of kitchen aide (designated Teacher); need to assist in the kitchen (Preparing, cleaning and organizing)

Ø COVID-19 guidelines in place

Ø Sanitizing, disinfecting, or cleaning procedures in place

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

v Physically able to participate in training sessions, presentations, and meetings.

v Some travel may be required for the purpose of meeting with clients, stakeholders, or off-site personnel/management.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate with possible high outside noise levels.

Employment is conditional pending satisfactory results of all required tests and background checks mentioned above. Periodic TB clearances may be required if hired.
