Raytheon Technologies is looking for high-energy, self-driven team members with demonstrated track records to join our team as an electronics hardware architect with focus on firmware and circuit card pre-CAD design. This position requires technical leadership and engineering expertise in hardware architecting of complex, low volume systems. The candidate must be able to implement as a technical contributor with the ability to coordinate the work of others from various functional areas for the design, build, and test of systems, typically electronics that interact with high precision optical-mechanical assemblies.


We are currently seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer & Architect to join the Advance Concepts and Technology Design (ACT) in McKinney, TX. As a critical team member and electronics architect, the Principal Electrical Engineer & Architect will design, develop, and integrate the most technologically advanced systems in the world. The Principal Electrical Engineer & Architect is a lead position responsible for architecting clean sheet and upgrade electronic solutions. The Principal Electrical Engineer & Architect will work with other experienced engineers with extensive backgrounds in circuit card and firmware design. The candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and will have the ability to work self-guided yet collaboratively in a team environment.

Required Skills:

8+ years of professional engineering experience to include the following:

Electronics architecting with recent experience in 3U VPX and/or SOSA hardware
Understanding of backplane topologies, slot and module profiles of 3U VPX card sets
Experience with pre-CAD circuit design, including schematic capture, power, FPGA resource utilization, background knowledge of PWB stacks ups
Familiarity with signal integrity best practices and ability to coordinate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to provide and/or source the needed inputs for subject matter experts to run models
Experience with pre-placement of components and ability to coordinate with mechanical functions to generation MICDs for circuit cards
Experience with Mixed Signal Design: One or more of the following. A/D Converters, Digital Down Converters, D/A Converters, Digital Waveform Generators, Mixed Signal CCAs, Mixed Signal Modules and Subsystems
Ability to communicate with vendors requirements and specifications to facilitate the quote and design of new hardware
Digital Hardware: One or more of the following. Subsystem/Module Digital Circuits, FPGA/ASICs, COTS Interfaces, Subsystem Development, VME/PCI interfaces Digital Systems, System Trades, Architecture, Embedded Processing
CCA design with Xilinx and/or Altera FPGA/SoCs
Zynq, Kintex/Virtex Ultrascale and newer
Experience with new architecture development
Experience in industry design tools, i.e. Xpedition Enterprise
The ability to train and mentor early-career engineers
The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance


Desired Skills:

5+ years experience with hardware/software design for embedded control Experience with VHDL or Verilog designs and test benches experience with Xilinx, Intel/Altera, or Microsemi FPGAs:
Experience with video optimization such as:
Non-uniformity correction
Contrast Enhancement, Video Processing
Color Correction
Exposure control
Experience with image sensor integration, e.g. new visible and IR cameras
Applied digital controls system integration experience
PID controllers, PWM-drive loops, applied non-linear controls
Experience working with external vendors for PWB layout
Experience with Electro-Optical systems and subsystems
Exposure to analytical tools such as Matlab/Simulink
Experience with Mentor Graphics xDX Designer


Education (including Major):

Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.

Desired Education:
Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or other related field is preferred
