Job Title: Professional Research Assistant (Open Rank Entry-Intermediate)

Job Summary:
The Division of Surgical Oncology is seeking one or two self- motivated, full-time employees at the level of professional research assistant to work with faculty investigators on projects characterizing pathways that cancer utilizes to evade immune attack. The major responsibility of this position will be to perform research projects under the direction of the PI or senior lab members. The ideal candidates will be able to do independent experiments, and he/she will be able to perform data analysis and prepare research manuscripts. Other duties are related to maintain the laboratory at a daily base.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize a variety of laboratory techniques required for research projects.
- Perform experiments, documentation, and analyze results.
- Provide animal care related to research studies, as necessary.
- Develop and implement new or modified laboratory techniques required for research projects.
- Assist supervisor with creation and implementation of processes and procedures and quality improvement initiatives.
- Assist and train junior team members.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Entry Level:
- Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field.
- A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis
Intermediate Level:
- Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
- A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis
- One (1) year professional level research experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
- Two (2) years of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory
- Previous research experience.
- Working experience with mouse models.
Competencies, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficient knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques
- Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution
- Outstanding customer service skills
- Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion
- Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology medical terminology
- Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information
- Basic cell culture and molecular biology techniques.
- Ability to function independently in the laboratory
- Familiarity with molecular biology techniques including DNA, RNA, and protein purification.

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as:
Entry Level: $40,280 - $51,236
Intermediate Level: $43,834 - $55,757.
The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation depending on the level.
