The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith based organization, has a job opening for a Program Aide at the Pleasant Grove Corps, located in Dallas, TX.

Job Summary:
Assists in facilitating and monitoring recreational activities of the Community Center; provides constant care for the needs of the children; supervises and coaches sporting events; transports patrons to and from the Community Center; assists in maintaining the Community Center facilities, equipment, and grounds.

Child Care Responsibilities (40%)
Provides constant care for the needs of the children in an efficient, clean, loving, safe, secure and healthy manner.

Prepares and serves children snacks and meals; ensures that children receive nutritional and tasteful food; provides positive, relaxed atmosphere during children’s mealtime encouraging conversation.

Exhibits control of the children and, when needed, displays proper discipline techniques.

Prepares and maintains up-to-date records and required reports (attendance, development progress, discipline reports, etc.).

Ensures the accountability, security and safety of children participating in after school activities and field trips; reports all accidents to the supervisor in an accurate and timely manner.

Administers basic first aid as necessary; reports any health issues with supervisor in accordance to policies and procedures.

Organizing, Planning, and Teaching Lessons (20%)
Develops and implements lesson plans which are age-group program specific; utilizes age-group appropriate discovery areas, enriched with program-specific activities, including teacher-made materials and hands-on activities.

Determines appropriate supplies and materials for lesson plans and recreational activities; ensures the children's safety in utilizing the same.

Provides opportunities for physical and mental stimulation through both inside and outside learning activities.

Maintains the after-school materials in an orderly fashion; maintains accountability for any supplies necessary for after school programs.

Athletic Programs Operations Responsibilities (20%)
Opens/closes the Community Center in compliance with established operating hours; ensures the center is properly secured during non-operating hours.

Prepares and maintains a schedule of Community Center activities in an accurate and timely manner.

Supervises patrons visiting the Community Center and participating in programs; ensures that patrons’ behavior remains consistent with center rules and regulations.

Supervises and coaches football, basketball, and baseball games; leads and motivates players to exhibit good sportsmanship; acts as liaison for communication to all volunteers.

Assists in maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of the Community Center facilities and grounds.

Reports any injuries to the Community Center Director or the Athletic Coordinator immediately and instructs the injured party to complete an incident report.

Completes and submits monthly statistics form in an accurate and timely manner.

Driving Responsibilities (20%)
Transports or assists with transporting children whenever needed; ensures the safety and protection of children at all times.

Assists in leading children on field trips.

Transports patrons to and from the Community Center; observes good driving habits at all times in order to ensure the safety of patrons and The Salvation Army vehicles.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the standard rules and techniques of athletic sports such as baseball, basketball and football. Ability to build effective and positive relationships with people of all ages. Ability to lead and motivate people participating in recreational activities. Ability to lead and participate in recreational and/or sports programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Education and Experience:
High school diploma or G.E.D. required,

and

One to two years’ experience teaching child development programs,

or

any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities

and

Ability to pass all state licensing background checks.

Certifications:
Valid State Drivers' License
First Aid and CPR Certifications (or ability to obtain within established timeline)

Physical Requirements:
Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write and communicate the English language effectively. Ability and willingness to conduct all duties in accordance with the ministry of the organization and its Christian principles; conducts all communications and job duties with the highest level of professionalism. Duties are usually performed by a combination of sitting, standing, walking, and/or driving a vehicle. Moderate amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting, and carrying light or moderately heavy objects (less than 50 lbs.) occasionally.

Working Conditions:
Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor recreational environment where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
