Program Coordinator for Jewish Life (Part-Time)

Role Overview
*This position is a 10 month, part-time role (estimated 14 hours/week).*
The Program Coordinator for Jewish Life will partner with the Spiritual Life Director and Jewish Chaplain to develop and implement plans for an engaged and inclusive Jewish community. The Coordinator will work directly with our undergraduate Hillel student organization and Executive Board. Bentley Hillel is an active, long existing organization that is built upon inclusion of all expressions of Jewish identity; student leadership and empowerment are valued. The Program Coordinator will work independently and as part of a team and have experience mentoring young adults in program development. Responsibilities include arranging logistics for weekly Friday evening Shabbat dinners, programs and speakers on campus, events in the local community, and general organizational mentorship to Hillel. In addition, creating an educational calendar of Jewish holidays and effective marketing of Jewish community life will be included. The Coordinator will work collaboratively to support the pluralism values of the Center, with one Shabbat meal per month being an interfaith engagement opportunity.
What You’ll Do
- Guide students and Center to build a warm, welcoming, positive environment for Jewish community on campus.
- Empower students to build a strong student led Hillel, in concert with the Jewish Chaplain.
- Survey student interests and encourage deeper engagement
- Build meaningful relationships with students
- Maintain record keeping of Jewish student contacts and involvement
- Make arrangements for and attend weekly Shabbat community services and meals
- Coordinate on-campus and off-campus programs. Oversee details of programming, including but not limited to: lectures, discussion groups, social and tzedek programming throughout the academic year.
- Assess and report on effectiveness of programs
- Primary focus is on undergraduate Jewish students, and the student group “Hillel.” Outreach to graduate students is also a component. Occasional events to include faculty and staff
- Ensure and support robust, diverse programming to engage a spectrum of students who identify as cultural Jewish to Modern Orthodox.
- Provide administrative support to Rabbi (Jewish Chaplain) for holiday programming, services and observance
- Network on campus and beyond to create robust opportunities. This may include Tamid, Birthright, Hillel NE, Hillel International, Israel programs and others.
- Help coordinate campus and community publicity, including flyers, educational calendars, social media, and Campus Groups software.
- Assist as needed with division-wide and campus-wide programs (such as Orientation, Diversity and Inclusion training, Admissions Open Houses, Vigils, Falcon Weekend, PRIDE month)
- Other duties as assigned to support the mission of the Center.
What You’ll Bring to the Job
- Bachelor’s degree
- 1-2 years’ experience with higher education student engagement or Jewish communal organizing
- Working knowledge of diverse movements within Judaism
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Creative and collaborative mindset
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity, embedded with religious pluralism
- Master’s Degree or current Master’s or Rabbinic Studies Candidate (preferred)
- Advanced knowledge of Judaism, theory and practice of interfaith engagement, and student development theory (preferred)
- Experience in multi faith settings, diversity training programs, diverse worldviews and traditions, or spiritual formation (preferred)
