THIS POSITION REQUIRES APPLICANTS TO BE TOBACCO AND NICOTINE FREE

The Hamilton County Health Department is a tobacco and nicotine free campus. The Hamilton County Health Department prohibits the hiring of individuals who use tobacco or nicotine products in any form. All individuals who are offered a position with the Health Department are screened for tobacco or nicotine use as part of the post-offer health screening. Individuals whose post-offer health screening results are verified positive for tobacco or nicotine use will be disqualified from employment, their job offers will be withdrawn, and they will be disqualified from employment with the Hamilton County Health Department for one (1) year from the date of the post-offer health screening.

When this position is located directly within the Federal Homeless Health Clinic, applicants for hire must meet the Federal COVID-19 Vaccine Mandate requirements and be fully vaccinated or be deemed eligible for a medical or a religious exemption. Additionally, there are a number of other positions within the Hamilton County Health Department that provide operational services/support to the Federal Homeless Health Clinic. Based on Federal Guidelines, applicants for those positions must also meet the Federal COVID-19 Vaccine Mandate requirements and be fully vaccinated or be deemed eligible for a medical or a religious exemption. The Hamilton County Health Department has a responsibility to respond quickly and efficiently when public health emergencies occur. All Hamilton County Health Department employees are responsible for ensuring their contact information is current and they are accessible should a public health emergency arise. The Hamilton County Health Department maintains a call down system to store contact information and mobilize staff in the event of an emergency. During a public health emergency, all staff are required to respond should a call to mobilize be made. During a public health emergency, work hours for any and all Hamilton County Health Department employees are subject to modification to meet the needs of the community.

Under general supervision of the Communicable Disease Program Manager and direct supervision of the Travel/Adult Immunization Manager, to provide preventative health and travel immunizations along with education and outreach to residents, indigent and under-served and/or high-risk populations of Hamilton County. Offers comprehensive Travel Health Consultations services. Performs other related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Tasks

Provides patient/client services in a manner that maintains quality care and documentation while ensuring the safety of patients/clients and compliance with all applicable regulations and guidelines; may promote and provide Travel Health Consultations; Adult preventative vaccines and Travel immunizations. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

Knowledge of federal, state, and county laws, rules, regulations, policies, practices and procedures related to provision of Public Health Professional Nursing services.

Knowledge of professional Registered Nurse medical methods, practices and procedures.

Knowledge of community and county medical, social, and emotional services.

Knowledge of quality reviews and audit methods, practices and procedures.

Knowledge of specialty methods, practices and procedures related to area of assignment.

Knowledge of patient chart documentation, recordkeeping, case management; and specialized medical procedures related to area of assignment.

Knowledge of immunizations and travel regulations

Skill utilizing specialized medical equipment utilizing proper universal health and safety precautions.

Skill managing upset and/or confrontational patients/clients or family members.

Skill reading, analyzing, and interpreting medical research, reports, tests, and information.

Skill utilizing verbal and written communication in providing presentations, counseling, educational materials, and instructions related to medical information.

Skill providing case management to indigent or underserved populations.

Skill utilizing customer service/public relations techniques when responding to inquiries and complaints.

Skill establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

Skill in basic computer operation.

Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral form.

Minimum Qualifications

Must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and have one (1) year of direct work experience in public health nursing. Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a registered professional nurse in TN. Applicants must also possess current CPR certification and a valid driver’s license.

OR

Must possess an Associate’s degree in Nursing, and have three (3) years of direct work experience in public health nursing. Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a registered professional nurse in TN.

Applicants must also possess current CPR certification and a valid driver’s license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Prior work experience with adult and/or travel immunizations

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
:

Work requires long periods of sitting, standing, walking, lifting medical supplies or patients weighing up to 50 pounds, assisting patients in transfers to examination tables; extensive contact with infectious diseases, case management and attention to detail. Some positions require occasional travel and on-call duties.
