Under the direction of the Vice President of Workforce and Community Engagement, The Public Information Officer (PIO) oversees, creates, and implements college communications across multiple stakeholders through a variety of platforms. The PIO has immediate responsibility for the implementation of the College’s strategic marketing plan. They will coordinate outsourced marketing functions and manage marketing vendor relationships. This individual will direct all advertising and production functions for promotional campaigns; serve as managing editor of all print and digital publications; and oversee photography, print, online design work, and video production; the design and production of college publications, crafts external college messages, and advises on internal college messaging to support College goals and build the College’s image and awareness of its programs.
This position is assigned to the VGCC Main Campus in Henderson, NC; although, some travel to other counties in the college’s service area is expected. Consistent with VGCC’s Teleworking Policy, this position is eligible for up to two (2) days per week of telework after the first six (6) months of employment._

Essential Duties

  • Develop and sustain a creative, well-designed system for the branding of the College and programs, including a marketing plan and marketing calendar with the assistance of marketing vendor partners and the College’s Marketing Advisory Committee
  • Responsible for the collaborative creation, planning implementation and evaluation of all strategic marketing, branding, public relations and advertising programs and other assigned communication goals consistent with the College’s strategic plan
  • Work collaboratively with VGCC vendor marketing firms to create and distribute VGCC social Media posts via – Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and emerging social media outlets
  • Work collaboratively with VGCC vendor marketing firms to create and distribute VGCC advertisement via print, radio, television and geofencing media outlets
  • Write and distribute news releases for college events to all appropriate media in collaboration with other VGCC faculty and staff
  • Collaborates with other areas of the college to develop, implement, and evaluate targeted enrollment and outreach initiatives using data and input from stakeholders
  • Display a cooperative and collaborative attitude and work within a team environment to ensure the College brand is accurately represented
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Workforce and Community Engagement.

Job Duties specific to the department

  • Develop and produce designs for college publications that include, but not limited to: ARCHES; eFunds golf tournament; business cards; annual President's Report to the Community; special print projects; tray liners, business cards; flyers, posters, booklets, certificates; diplomas; invitations; envelopes; presentation folders; newsletters; letterhead; banners; t-shirts; event programs; booklet covers, etc.
  • Communicates and works closely with college administration, faculty & staff to meet their needs regarding publication creation, design, photocopying, printing and distribution
  • Adheres to the college's policy on advertising and publications as put forth in the Administrative Policy & Procedures Manual
  • Presents publications to VP of Workforce & Community Engagement for final review and approval

Qualifications

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, English, or a related field from an accredited college or university
  • Three years’ experience working in public relations, marketing, or communications
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive within the College’s service area for public relations events

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, or a related field

Physical Demands

  • Light work that includes moving objects up to 30 pounds.
  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $43,178.00 - $64,768.00 per year
