Job description
The position is with our floor crew. The hours are 5:00 pm to 1:30 am, Monday through Friday.
Under supervision, cleans and maintains an assigned area in County buildings and performs other related work as required.
Typical Tasks and Representative Duties
(Not in order of importance)
- Cleans, scrubs and disinfects offices, restrooms and various other areas, walls, equipment, drinking fountains and outside walks and areas
- Cleans, vacuums, sweeps, mops, waxes, buffs, polishes and strips floors
- Dusts and polishes furniture, woodwork, equipment and fixtures
- Cleans, dusts and washes windows, mirrors, window blinds and drapes.
- Performs simple maintenance tasks.
- Completes requisitions and dispenses cleaning and household supplies.
- Empties and cleans containers, wastebaskets and ashtrays; empties recycled materials into appropriate containers.
- Checks and turns on and off heating and cooling equipment.
- Locks and unlocks buildings; turns lights on and off; raises and lowers flags.
- May meet members of the public in the course of work.
Drives County vehicles to service facilities and pick-up or deliver supplies.
The ideal candidate will have building facility custodian and/or customer service experience. They will have the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships internally with our custodial team and communicate externally with departmental staff and County clients; be experienced in the custodian role with a focus on building upkeep; have great physical endurance, and time management skills to cover multiple facilities and successfully complete special cleanup projects; having a keen eye for detail and diligence are imperative in custodial maintenance jobs.
Additionally, well-qualified candidates will have knowledge of the principles and techniques required for building maintenance, safe chemical storage and handling, and the safeguarding of facilities; ensuring facilities are safe and prepared each day by removing trash, sanitizing surfaces, promptly reporting any hazards or damage to County buildings and be available to work some weekends and/or holidays. Having experience sealing and stripping floors, cleaning carpets, and using industrial cleaning equipment is a plus.

Graduation from High School or GED.
Licenses and CertificatesA valid driver license is required at the time of application. A valid CALIFORNIA driver license is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.

Employees in this classification may be required to work holidays, weekends and irregular hours. Must pass a background and law enforcement security check for this position.
