JOB SUMMARY:
Key functions of the Quality Engineer include supporting the customer to ensure ongoing production excellence and acts as a pivotal point between Operations, Engineering, and the Customer. The Quality engineer will also aid in root cause analysis and resolve quality and customer issues. Additional functions include providing a first point of contact for the Customer and to act as the voice of the Customer within the Company, and collecting and presenting key data to drive process improvements using Lean Six Sigma and Quality Improvement tools.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Duties/Responsibilities
- Build collaborative relationships with personnel across the organization to maximize communication and support the work of others.
- Listens to issues relayed from Workers; teaches, coaches and supports changes to improve the work environment, process outcomes and the understanding of excellent
- Identifies and assesses various problems and departures from established manufacturing expectations and best practices; researches, recommends and owns solutions.
- Collaborates with others to identify cost-effective manufacturing processes for new and existing product lines.
- Lead the 3L5Y and 8D process, investigating reports of defective, damaged, or malfunctioning parts, assemblies, equipment, or systems to determine nature and scope of problem that the customer is experiencing
- Initiate containment of stock at all locations and prevent further substandard production, control clean cut-offs throughout and ensure containment is managed while on-going corrective actions are implemented.
- Examine, measure, inspect and/or test defective part for conformance to engineering design drawings or blueprint specifications
- Support APQP activities for new and existing products.
- Promote the use of customer preferred techniques for continuous improvement such as Six-Sigma, Poka-Yoke (Error Proofing), Measurement System Analysis, FMEA’s, etc.
- Facilitate Continuous Improvement projects as assigned.
- Analyze internal scrap and Cost of Poor-Quality trends. Coordinate internal corrective actions to address issues.
Job Skills Requirements
- Previous experience with Rubber injection molding preferred
- Be willing to challenge the status quo, “How can we do this better?”, “Why is this done this way, is there a better way” mentality.
- Must be familiar in the Root Cause and Problem-Solving Process, and familiar with standard Quality Problem Solving Tools (8D, DMAIC, A3, Fishbone, 5-Why, etc.)
- Six Sigma Green Belt preferred
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Process Engineering, Industrial engineering, or Quality Engineering Manufacturing position
- Must be an excellent communicator to all levels, both internal and external
- Creative / Innovative, high level of problem solving, including identifying additional sources of customer feedback
- Experience with ISO 9000:2015 or IATF Standards, Internal and 3rd party audits
- Knowledge of AIAG core tools as applicable.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred. Experience in rubber or related manufacturing environment without a degree is acceptable.
Certifications & Licenses
- Six Sigma Green Belt, preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; talk or hear; and use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders.
The employee must occasionally lift up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The position is primarily an office-based position with regular visits to the plant floor, vendors, and other partners. The employee occasionally performs work-related travel outside of state.
