Sony AI America (SAIA) is seeking highly motivated, self-driven individuals with expertise in AI Ethics - specifically Fairness, Transparency, and Accountability (FTA). We are currently looking for smart, enthusiastic people who want to join our team of world-renowned researchers as we push the boundaries of applying AI in support of human creativity. In this role, the successful candidate will research, develop and deploy fair, transparent, and accountable technology for image processing and other business areas. Sony AI America is a remote-work organization – location is flexible.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead research projects in AI ethics, especially around Fairness, Transparency, and Accountability.
  • Work closely with product and compliance teams to address AI ethics issues across Sony's diverse businesses.
  • Work closely with a team of AI researchers and programmers in the U.S., Switzerland, and Japan on ambitious AI projects.
  • Investigate new algorithms to solve fundamental AI ethics problems.
  • Write code to support research, usually in Python, C++, and/or R.
  • Write reports and give presentations for internal audiences.
  • Write papers for and give presentations at academic conferences.
Qualifications:
  • Passion to develop cutting-edge AI ethics technology and deploy it through a multi-stakeholder approach.
  • PhD or equivalent experience with a track record of relevant academic publications, patents, and/or open-source software related to AI ethics. Interdisciplinary researchers are highly encouraged to apply.
  • Seniority will depend on number of years of work experience after PhD (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience working with different AI ethics stakeholders, such as users and product, engineering, legal, and compliance business units.
  • Experience in research on algorithmic fairness, accountability, and transparency.
  • A track record of implementing software systems.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills, including the ability to articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

The anticipated annual base salary for this position in the US is $120,000 to 160,000. This range does not include any other compensation components or other benefits that an individual may be eligible for. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
