Retail Purchasing/Inventory Manager

Position Summary

We are looking for an Inventory Manager to join our retail team at Plain & Fancy Country Store and Miller's Gift Shop, who will be responsible for retail purchasing and receiving. As part of a fast-paced, dynamic merchant team, you will analyze business needs and develop relationships with vendors to ensure the best possible products and prices for our loyal customers at both gift shops. In addition, you will be responsible for merchandising directives to both retail stores and managing incoming freight at our largest location, Plain & Fancy County Store.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Fostering a success-oriented, accountable environment within the Company through communication, strong leadership, and culture development within ALL teams.
  • Establishing retail purchasing budgets for each retail store with its Retail Manager by surveying demand; identifying and evaluating competitors; identifying industry trends; preparing financial, marketing and sales projections, analysis, and estimates.
  • Generating purchasing orders after identifying purchasing needs based on inventory levels, inventory/sales reports, and traffic patterns.
  • Ensure that all retail locations are being re-merchandised as sell through occurs and kept clean and organized to ensure that stores look full and we are giving customers a great shopping experience.
  • Ensuring orders are arriving to stores in a timely manner and adhering to shipping schedules established.
  • Responsible for receiving goods at Plain & Fancy Country Store, including pricing and merchandising.
  • Meet monthly with Retail Management team to discuss needs, merchandising initiatives, transfers, sales and gather feedback from team.
  • Maintaining accurate and updated vendor contact information and purchase records for the Accounting and Accounts Payable departments.
  • Oversee USPS and UPS company accounts for accuracy.
  • Ability to develop and foster relationships with vendors and sales representatives.
  • Generating sales and inventory reports to share with Retail Managers.
  • Attend trade shows both in and out-of-state to ensure our gift shops have the best products in the market.
  • Ensuring product database system is kept up to date and items no longer in use are discontinued.
  • Responsible for the transport of inter-company transfers from store to store.
  • Managing inventory and profits by ensuring that waste from damaged or expired goods is kept to a minimum and that employees are providing great guest service to prevent theft.
  • Maintaining guest satisfaction by monitoring, evaluating, and auditing retail merchandise offerings; building relationships with preferred guests.
  • Maintaining safe, secure, and healthy facility environments by following and enforcing sanitation standards and procedures; complying with health and legal regulations; maintaining security systems.
  • Maintaining professional and technical knowledge by tracking emerging trends in the retail industry; attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies.
  • Accomplishing company goals by exploring opportunities to add value and seeking out new ways to grow the business.
  • Effectively managing through clear, direct, and respectful communication.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Understanding of how to develop and implement business strategies through gained knowledge about company history, culture, identity, and goals.
  • Prior management experience in retail required for position of at least 1-2 years.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to develop budgets and financial planning strategies, with a strong decision-making ability to implement process improvements and develop management proficiency and profitability with a focus on maintaining quality.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate others to perform well, and accept feedback from others; delegate work assignments, give authority to work independently, set expectations, and monitor delegated activities.
  • Ability to involve staff in planning, decision-making, facilitating, and process improvement; be available to staff; provide regular feedback to encourage growth.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of industry and industry-related trends and forecasts.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner as well as skillfully gather and analyze information.
  • Speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations, demonstrate group presentation skills, and conduct productive meetings.
  • Willingness to explore ways to improve and promote quality; demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness; and maintain compliance with legal and regulatory aspects.
  • Observe safety and security procedures and uses equipment and materials properly.
