At Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems (RMS), we understand that sometimes we must pause our professional life to support our family and loved ones. After stepping away from the workplace to care for children, aging parents or other family obligations, the road to return to work can be challenging, and at times intimidating. This is where Chapter Next can be part of your solution.
Chapter Next is a 12-16 week paid returnship hosted by RMS. Candidates who have taken a professional career hiatus for at least 2+ years will be eligible to apply to this program.
During this returnship participants will become part of a community of similarly experienced professionals with challenging work scopes that contribute to the great innovation produced by Lockheed Martin! Selected candidates will be exposed to comprehensive training, professional development opportunities, networking opportunities, and individual based mentoring
Our goal is to provide the fundamental tools needed to be successful in your career field, and to potentially prepare you for an opportunity to join Lockheed Martin full-time. Fields of focus will be diverse across the program and include functional and technical opportunities.
The software engineer will participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle (design, development, and test). The engineer will leverage our software engineering processes and procedures while performing their respective software engineering and verification activities. The engineer will understand and adhere to program cost and schedule targets, make targeted modifications to existing software baselines as well as develop new components and subsystems as requirements dictate.
The successful candidate will be flexible, motivated, dedicated, detail-focused, team-oriented, and capable of multi-tasking. Positions are located in East Orlando, FL. Keeping up-to-date on emerging technologies and tools will be encouraged.

Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's level degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics or related technical field and 2 years of professional experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency with at least one modern software language such as C++, C, C#, Java and/or Python
- Willingness to travel, if required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance (requires US Citizenship)
Individuals considered for this position may have experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Working knowledge of C++/C on a Linux operating system
- Working knowledge of Agile, Atlassian tool suite (JIRA/Confluence/Bitbucket)
- Working knowledge of Model Based Engineering (MBE), DOORs, Enterprise Architect, Rhapsody
Additional desired capabilities include:
- Ability to work with cross-functional teams (HW, SE, I&T)
- Experience with any of the following: Flight Simulation, Avionics, Electronic Warfare, Radar or Radar simulation
- Docker, Ansible, GitLab, AWS, Kubernetes, Software Factory, Virtualization (VMWare)
- Experience developing software on Linux and/or Windows operating systems
