RF Communications System Modeler and Analyst
Job description
Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) is seeking professionals with background in RF communications system modeling and simulation, RF propagation effects, and performance analysis. The successful applicant will support the modeling and analysis of a variety of military communications systems with an objective to develop a military standard (MIL-STD). A background in mathematical and computer modeling is highly desirable.
The initial work will evaluate and characterize natural and artificial threats to RF communications. Longer term, the successful candidate will learn to maintain and upgrade computer models and assist customers in the application of these models. Systems of interest include over-the-horizon LF/VLF and HF systems, line-of-sight systems operating at UHF and higher frequencies, and MILSATCOM. Some experience and expertise with modem design and testing, link budget analysis, antenna filtering, scintillation effects, and current military RF communications systems is desirable.
Software experience should include Fortran or C++, Visual Studio, software configuration management, and MS Office applications. Responsibilities will include participation in the process for developing an RF Disturbed Communications MIL-STD, conducting research on relevant RF systems, simulation of RF system performance in threat environments, and performing analysis that supports the MIL-STD.
Future responsibilities will include R&D on software modeling, upgrades and maintenance of models, customer support, and application of modeling and simulation to support link design, testing, and analysis.
Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
Candidate selected would have the option to work out of the Division Office in Santa Barbara, CA, Arlington, VA, Huntsville, AL, Albuquerque, NM or Raleigh, NC.
RF Communications System Modeler and Analyst Required Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in a science, math, or engineering discipline relevant to RF communications system analysis
- Software development, test, and verification, including Fortran or C++
- Knowledge of principles, concepts, and techniques of analysis and methodologies related to RF communications system performance assessment
- Ability to collaborate and interact with government customers and software users
RF Communications System Modeler and Analyst Required Experience:
- Active Department of Defense Secret Clearance within the past 2 years
- 5 years of experience and expertise with RF communications and/or radar system analysis or equivalent military training, and competence in software development
- Understanding of RF signal propagation effects, such as absorption, scattering loss, noise, and multipath/scintillation
- Understanding of relevant military RF communications system operations

Anticipated salary range: $90,000- $144,450. Offer may vary depending on experience and skill set.
