Job Summary


Make an impact on health care in rural populations, hospitals, and emergency medical services! Apply to become a Rural Health Researcher for the Office of Rural Health and Primary Care at the Minnesota Department of Health. In this role you will assist in developing and executing qualitative and quantitative research and program evaluation and develop implications/applications of results for rural health policy and rural hospital sustainability planning.

This position will have the option of teleworking; however, it will be based on the business needs of the unit and is at supervisory discretion.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of professional experience in conducting or designing data-related projects. Experience to include one or both of the following:

  • Data analysis and research
  • Program evaluation

Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Economics, Environmental Health, Biostatistics, Psychology, Sociology, or closely related field may substitute for 12 months experience. A Master’s degree in one of the above areas of study will substitute for 18 months of advanced professional experience.

Minimum Qualification to be assessed at interview:

  • Experience in conducting qualitative research, survey research, or program evaluation.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time/workload and work in teams.
  • Communication skills sufficient to communicate clearly with division leadership and staff.
  • Human relations skills to achieve effective working relationships within the agency and externally.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Economics, Environmental Health, Biostatistics, Psychology, Sociology, or closely related field.
  • Ability to identify and evaluate literature, synthesize information, assess implementation implications, draft recommendations, present information and apply insights to rural health care issues.
  • Experience strategically planning and intentionally connecting, cross-informing multiple programs, developing synergy and reaching common objectives.
  • Experience coordinating and supporting stakeholder research and informational needs.
  • Experience facilitating and leading departmental and external task forces, advisory committees and planning groups with diverse stakeholders; ability to facilitate decision-making and achieve consensus on controversial issues.
  • Familiarity with data visualization and mapping packages such as Tableau, ArcGIS.

This position requires successful completion of a background check.

This employment does not require a valid drivers license, but it does demand travel, which the candidate will be responsible for meeting.
