Townsend Building Supply, a leading supplier of lumber and building materials in the Wiregrass and FL Panhandle areas, is seeking a Repair and Remodel Sales Representative to join our growing team in Dothan, AL. Compensation for this position is an hourly rate plus commission. The role of the Repair and Remodel Sales Representative portion of this position is to sell Townsend products and services to repair & remodel customers, state, county & city municipalities and limited pro-channel customers outside the retail store setting. This position will also spend time selling products and services to customers within the retail store setting. While performing duties as a Repair and Remodel Sales Representative, travel to locations within the assigned sales area will be required. Estimated travel for this position is approximately 50% and is primarily during the business day. In addition to spending 50% of the time performing outside sales tasks, this position will require 50% of the day be spent at the Dothan retail store assisting with customer service, inventory control and other necessary store functions.

Repair and Remodel Outside Sales Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Develop and maintain knowledge of the building industry in the area serviced by the store location as well as “state of the art” product knowledge in the building materials industry.
  • Work with customers to identify and provide solutions to their product needs.
  • Set and achieve challenging sales goals.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with repair and remodel professionals and local municipalities in the specified geographic area.
  • Work with customers to identify and provide solutions to their product needs.
  • Familiarize oneself with business objectives and deliver sales strategies accordingly to ensure attainment of company sales goals and profitability.
  • Work collaboratively with management to achieve goals.
  • Make sales calls and meet with prospective customers.

Inside Sales Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Respond to customer inquiries regarding product information, placement of orders, requests for pricing and provide customer follow-up when necessary.
  • Accept payments and apply the payments correctly to the appropriate customer account.
  • Answer phones when necessary.
  • Develop and maintain strong knowledge of all existing product lines and new product lines.
  • Maintain knowledge of all product information, pricing, inventory, merchandise promotions, and advertisements.
  • Working with customers to identify and provide solutions to their product needs.
  • Providing exceptional customer service and ensuring the needs of customers are consistently met in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Maintaining shelf stock to provide merchandise to meet customer needs.
  • Assist with conducting physical inventory.
  • Maintaining cleanliness on the store floor and surrounding areas at all times.
  • Accurately and efficiently complete all sales transactions.
  • Assist Outside Sales Representatives as needed.

Qualifications of the ideal candidate include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • At least 3 years of experience in sales.
  • Prior experience in the building materials industry or construction is preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalency.
  • Ability to pass drug and background screening.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Strong interest in learning the building material product lines.
  • Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
  • Computer literacy and knowledge of current office technology.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
