Job description
What You Will Do:
  • Verifies insurance eligibility, benefits, pre-certifications, prior authorizations and referrals requirements for scheduled outpatient services via telephone and/or insurance websites.
  • Obtains any required pre-certifications, prior authorizations and referrals from insurance companies, and primary care physicians.
  • Documenting all appointment details and patient demographics, insurance, etc., in the department’s registration and electronic medical record keeping systems accurately including linking all referrals and authorizations to appointments accurately.
  • Notifying patients via phone or mail of any financial responsibilities prior to appointments including any non-covered services, deductibles, copays, and coinsurance amounts.
  • Answer telephone within three rings and in a professional manner.
  • Schedule all types of patient appointments.
  • Register Patient for Patient Portal.
  • Mail information packet to new patients or guide them to the website to print and complete the materials prior to their appointment.
  • Instruct patient (or designated representative) to sign appropriate state mandated forms.
  • Answer financial questions or refer financial questions to the business office.
  • Collect co-pays and scan insurance cards.
  • Make certain patient has appropriate referral.
  • Perform sleep compliance downloads during the check-in process.
  • Via cross training, learn how to process insurance authorizations for sleep studies and CPAP therapy services.
  • Via cross training, know the functionality of credit card machine, postage machine, copier, fax machines.
  • Complete tasks as assigned in EHR (i.e.-schedule patient follow-up appointment, testing, radiology, blood work, etc).
  • Exchange pertinent information in a timely and professional manner with team members, physicians, etc.
  • Carry out routine duties and responsibilities with supervision.
  • Make decisions and establish work priorities on procedure-oriented operations.
  • Does not direct activities of other staff members.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What You Need to Be Successful:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • One-year medical related work experience.
  • Knowledge of medical insurance coverage.
  • Basic Computer Skills.
  • Medical terminology preferred.
