School Based Therapist

Family Counseling Service of the Finger Lakes, Inc. is looking for a regular, full – time, School Based Therapist, to join our team! The School Based Therapist will be on site at the Newark Central School District. The position is a licensed master’s level clinician trained in trauma-informed care and practices. The co-location of a trauma informed therapist will work to impact social determinants of health and build resiliency in students through the creation of a community schools model. Management of the project will occur through both FCSFL & the School District.
School Based Therapist Duties and Responsibilities
- Engage in agency meetings and clinical case review with clinical supervisor and director as needed and required
- Provides comprehensive treatment services to meet the needs of the clients within the school based program utilizing group, individual, conjoint and family therapy as needed and required
- Becoming knowledgeable of the school systems and tiered levels of support
- Maintain and complete clinical documentation for all active clients in a timely manner and send to Supervisor for approval.
- Be present within the school district 35 hours per week. Available for evening hours as needed but not exceeding two evenings per week.
- Provide clinical services for identified victims of crime, including but not limited to individual therapy, family therapy and group therapy.
- Utilize therapeutic modalities including but not limited to DBT, TF-CBT, regulation strategies, mindfulness/grounding techniques, TraumaPlay, expressive (journaling, art, music), crisis intervention, neurosequential model of therapeutics etc.
- Promote regulation of students in crisis and supports school staff in developing crisis and safety plans.
- Attend meetings as needed with families and students.
- Model Relationship Building and trauma informed care in Co-Located System.
- Available for onsite trainings, staff development and support to school staff.
- In conjunction with other staff, assists in the recruitment, screening and training of all clinical program interns/volunteers.
- Meets with and maintains regular contact with school mental health professionals to facilitate referral process and promote continuity of care.
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling or related field.
- Must be licensed in NYS (LMSW, LCSW, LMFT, LMHC, LCAT, etc)
- At least one year of clinically supervised experience, internships are included.
- Experience working within a social service or K-12 setting preferred.
- Specialization in community education and community organizing preferred
