Mission
EdAdvance is one of Connecticut's six Regional Educational Service Centers (RESCs). Our mission as the RESC in western Connecticut to is to promote the success of area school districts and their communities. EdAdvance is also a partner in the RESC Alliance and works collaboratively with the other RESC groups to support state-wide initiatives. In addition, EdAdvance operates five specialized school programs for students who are requiring educational placement outside of their district.

School Counselor/Career Navigator
Reports to: Director of Adult Education
Part Time, Academic Calendar, 2 or 3 nights per week, 3 hrs/day
Non-Exempt
Program locations in Litchfield County (Winsted, Torrington, Watertown)
31.19/hr, 30 min paid planning for each night
Position is open until filled / Anticipated start date is August 1, 2023

Job Description: EdAdvance is seeking a qualified applicant to work with adult learners to assist in goal-setting, self- and career exploration, developing workforce readiness skills,counseling, and making appropriate referrals to community services.

Major Responsibilities:

• Communicate with school counselors, case managers, and adult students about educational and career options
• Assist students with short- and long-term goal setting
• Assist students with self- and career exploration tools
• Help students to develop job search tools such as resumes and cover letters
• Assist students in problem-solving to overcome barriers to education and employment
• Perform any other duties as required to guarantee the efficient operation of the program and its successful delivery of services.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Sensitive to the learning and emotional needs of adult learners
• Knowledgeable of local support resources
• Knowledge of the college and financial aid application process

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Digital literacy: ability to learn guidance software
• Extremely organized and efficient
• Ability to work in a team environment

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to perform essential functions with or without accommodations

Travel: will have to visit program sites to meet directly with students
