Overview

This intermediate professional is a trained agilest who facilitates high performance teams. At this career level, the incumbent generally works independently in advancing scrum teams to their next level of performance. In addition to maturing agile practices, this individual also facilitates the adoption of agile technical disciplines such as Test Driven Development. This scrum master may coach other professionals in the agile practice discipline.
The Enterprise Agile Practice at Compassion International is a team of agile professionals who use their skills to advance the maturity, and adoption of Agile/SAFe within the ministry, ensuring that the culture and practice is evolving, and that the model efficiently translates effort into value delivery.
What will you do?
  • Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ, maintains a courteous, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people within and outside of Compassion, and faithfully upholds Compassion’s ministry in prayer.
  • Acts as an advocate to raise the awareness of the needs of children. Understands Christ’s mandate to protect children. Commits to and prioritizes child protection considerations in all decision-making, tasks and activities across the ministry. Abides by all behavioral expectations in Compassion’s Statement of Commitment to Child Protection and Code of Conduct. Reports any concerns of abuse, neglect or exploitation of children through Compassion’s internal reporting process and appropriately supports responses to incidents if they occur.

  • Works with Product Management, Business Owners, and Agile Development teams via SAFe events, e.g., PI (Program Increment) Planning, PO (Product Owner) Synch, Iteration Planning, backlog refinement, Inspect and Adapt, managing a team backlog, and aligning across the ARTs (Agile Release Train).
  • Day to day responsibilities of serving as a Scrum Master for as many teams as needed (ideally no more than 2). Scrum Master duties include daily stand-up, iteration planning, backlog refinement, tracking towards team PI objectives, facilitating impediment resolution, coaching teams on relentless improvement of the Agile practices based on the method the team practices (Scrum, Scrum/XP, Scrumban, Kanban).
  • As a neutral, reflective observer, taking part in day to day activities, observing and sharing, noticing interactions and reactions, then providing a perspective others may not have noticed. Provides helpful feedback includes appreciation, advice, and evaluation without judgment to help other persons and/or teams with personal growth and to uncover blind spots.
  • Models behaviors that align with Compassion's cultural behaviors and core values as well as a lean Agile mindset. Challenges assumptions, processes and structure that is an impediment to achieving Agile maturity. Guiding others to their own answers through the use of powerful questions that are relevant, actionable, thought provoking, focused, unbiased and answerable.
  • Proactively supports and creates where possible a continuous improvement and continuous learning culture.
  • Facilitates and matures lean agile practices within the team he or she leads.
  • Leverages understanding of agile practices to facilitate successful use of technical practices on the team such as Test Driven Development.
  • Removes obstacles that are impeding the agile team's progress.
  • Provides agile expertise to client groups such as product owner and associated stakeholders.
  • May provide expertise to other professionals and support staff in the agile practice discipline.
What you bring:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field and/or equivalent education, training and/or certification
  • Three years Relevant experience working in this or a related field.
