The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction is seeking applicants for an Education Program Consultant II (Working Title: Computer Science, IT, and Technology Education Consultant) for our Career and Technical Education Division. This Office is responsible for providing leadership, technical assistance, curriculum development and accountability in North Carolina public schools (grades 6-12) to assist in ensuring students graduating from secondary education are prepared for careers and postsecondary education.

The primary purpose of the position is the development, enhancement, assessment, and maintenance of curriculum at the 6-12 levels with special emphasis on Computer Science, IT, and Technology Education. The Education Consultant focuses on curriculum acquisition, assessment acquisition, professional development, collaboration with CTSOs, and work-based learning. The person provides technical assistance, professional development, and collaboration among clients inside and outside the agency. This position is responsible for managing Computer Science, IT, and Technology Education Middle and High School Courses.

In addition, the Education Consultant is responsible for assisting low-performing schools in achieving their performance goals in Computer Science, IT, and Technology. The Education Consultant may also be asked to provide assistance to support other state and federal initiatives related to Career and Technical Education. This position is expected to provide expertise in current instructional practices in Computer Science, IT, and Technology Education and/or in the area of exceptional children (students with disabilities). All responsibilities are related to Career and Technical Education.

  • Thorough knowledge of instructional methods and techniques, educational planning and research administration, and other aspects of education as it relates to Computer Science, IT, and Technology Education Middle and High School Courses
  • Knowledge of Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy as it relates to curriculum development and assessment.
  • In-depth pedagogical knowledge
  • Knowledge of Project Management skills to effectively lead curriculum teams successfully.
  • Ability to coordinate effective working arrangements with committee and work associates, curriculum teams, educational administrators, parent-teacher and other organizations, and the general public; and provide leadership in the interpretation, in oral and written form, of complex laws, rules, regulations, and policies to a full-range of contacts.
  • Ability to effectively convey ideas, in oral or written form, to federal, state, and local educational agency personnel.
  • Ability to independently manage business functions such as curriculum, assessment, professional development, work-based learning, and fostering relationships with a career-technical student organization.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Master's degree in the education field to which assigned from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of specifically related experience in public education; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
