Job Summary: The Lead Security Officer reports to the Security Director, performing a variety of duties to ensure safety, security, emergency management, and related activities. Patrols buildings and grounds, monitors parking and traffic, responds to and investigates security incidents, and assists and interacts with patients, visitors and staff as appropriate. Greets and assists visitors, patients and others. Follows through with customer questions, requests, and concerns in a timely fashion. Assists patients, visitors and employees obtain the information they need. The Lead Security Officer will also participate in special investigations and assist the Security Director with special projects as assigned or directed. In the absence of the Director, this individual will manage and schedule staff.


Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Reviews all activity logs, forms and reports and provides appropriate follow up when required.
  • Monitors security staff performance to ensure that they adhere to Department /Hospital policies and procedures; provide remedial training as necessary.
  • Assists with the maintenance of security systems including electronic access control, badging and clearances, door schedules, operational status of card access points and surveillance cameras, alarms, and visitor management identification system.
  • Administer card access/badging for employees, contractors, and vendors to ensure proper/ adequate access to the hospital.
  • If assigned, serves as a Field Training Officer (FTO) for new security officers and provides other training to Department/Hospital staff (MOAB, etc.) as needed.
Required Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice preferred.
  • MOAB training preferred.
  • 0-1 years related work experience required in Hospital Security.
  • Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 1-3 years experience in Hospital Security.
  • Prior supervisory experience.
  • Prior experience with CCURE 9000.

  • Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and converse in English to communicate effectively with medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.
  • Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate full working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, procedures and policies with the ability to use them in varied situations.
  • Team Work: Ability to act as a team leader for small projects or work groups, creating a collaborative and respectful team environment and improving workflows. Results may impact the operations of one or more departments.
  • Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service and staff training to meet customer service standards and expectations for the assigned unit(s). Resolves service issues in the assigned unit(s) in a timely and respectful manner.

Physical Nature of the Job:
Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 50 pounds of force frequently. Work is physically demanding and requires extended periods of standing and/or moving.
