This posting is located at Cumberland Juvenile Detention Center in Fayetteville, N. C.

This position will assist the Food Service Supervisor II position and provide support of the facility's School Nutrition Program and will ensure compliance with the Department's Federal School Nutrition Program regulations by:

•Assist supervisor with maintaining high standards of control for quality food production and service.
•Providing nutritionally adequate meals, meeting the Federal School Nutrition Program meal patterns and dietary standards, while adhering to planned menus.
•Following operational procedures for efficient and effective food production and service.
•Assist Supervisor with maintaining required records, HACCP binders, reports (SFA4 School Record of Daily Meal Participation) and inventories in compliance with federal and state regulations.
•Assist Supervisor with food and supplies requisition as needed, check the cost and quality of items received, and insures proper storage.
•Follow Department Procedure for inventorying food, supplies and equipment.
•Assists Supervisor with ensuring compliance with School Nutrition Local Wellness Program as well as being a committee member of the School Nutrition Local Wellness Program.
•Properly uses and cares for all equipment.
•Assist Supervisor with maintaining integrity and accountability of the facility School Nutrition Program through compliance with all federal and state regulations and Department School Nutrition policies.
•Complying with policies and procedures of the Department.
•Follow Federal and State safety and sanitation procedures.
•Provide professional and friendly customer service with facility staff; use a caring approach when interacting with juveniles.
•Obtain and maintain an approved Food Safety Certification as well as attend any other meetings and/or training as required by Federal and State regulations.
•Perform all duties and responsibilities in an ethical and professional manner as designated by the Detention Center Food Service Supervisor II and/or immediate supervisor, Facility Director, the Director of School Nutrition and Administrative Officer I.

Applicant should maintain high standards of personal cleanliness and food sanitation.

Applicant must be willing to work where needed and ensure coverage at areas where responsible.

Work Schedule: Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday 6:30 a.m - 4:30 p.m.

  • Experience reading and understanding labels and recipes in order to prepare/cook food.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Experience with writing clearly on various forms and reports.
  • Experience with food preparation and cleaning procedures.
  • Experience maintaining effective working relationships with employees and residents/customers.

Management Preferences:

  • Applicant with general knowledge of federal and state laws and polices relating to the Federal Child Nutrition Program
  • Certification in food safety practices.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Education and/or experience in food preparation that is directly related to the job and consistent with accepted practices of the trade equivalent to one year of experience in a commercial and/or institutional setting.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $33,100.00 - $44,509.00 per year
